i usually taken bookings within a 60 mile radius, but would like to reduce this to 10-15
if i concentrated my advertising efforts in local wedding directories, do you think i could still take a fair amt of bookings

Do you do just make-up? I do beauty and make-up i offer the application free within 5 miles radius anything over i charge... However ive never gone over 10 miles away for the prices i charge its not worth it... Depends what you charge?

Can you not go through your books for last year and work out how much you would have earnt from what you did within your revised radius?

hi
i specialise in bridal makeup and initially advertised that i covered a large area (south east) as many of the bridal mua tend to do - so although ive had a handful of "local" jobs, have had mostly jobs 40-60 miles away .. which i hate, they totally stress me out as im a nervous driver to start with and i think i would rather spend the time i waste driving to and thro with my family as i also work part time during the week .
just wondered if any of the mua on here took local jobs only thats all

Making some money and making a living are completely different things and in my opinion you would be hard pushed to make a living from this. I did bridal treatments for many years and although they are profitable they are also stressful and clients can be difficult. :)

I think if you do your wedding make up & try & promote your children's pamper parties a bit more you should do ok.
ps I did send you a PM about advertising the children's parties. Hopefully you got it ok :)

Yes the parties are starting to take off :green: I have 2 to do next weekend & 1 booked for September. The magazine I mentioned in my PM is really good for gaining interest.
The logo's great isn't it? Carl does some pretty cool stuff.
Glad to be of help x

I've advertised in a magazine called Raring2go.

I'm reliably informed that prom makeup is where the smart money is. I've teamed up with a local bridal shop and we do prom fayres. Boy, are there some extravagant girlies out there!

just a quick up date ..
i decided to concentrate my advertising locally and it has really paid off, most of the bookings i have for this summers weddings are within a 10 mile radius, with the exception of one which was too good to turn down (30 miles away)
i found i had to reduce my prices a little from £80 to £70 for the trial and again on the day - so only a loss of £20 per bride, but im so much happier now and have decided to train in eyelash extensions, plus a couple more beauty treatments so that i can offer bridal packages, and hopefully also cater for non bridal clients when i come off maternity leave early next year
thanks again for all your encouraging replies x
