I'm almost to scared to ask this question, but I'm going to:

As the evenings are drawing in, I have recently started using my Daylight light above my work area & I saw every nail tech that was competing at Olympia were also using them on their tables.

My questions are:

1.Is it strong enough to cure my gel even a little bit? The Daylight bit is confusing me, is it just the name of the company or to do with the light it emits.

2. Are they detrimental to any of the gel products. (if so what)

3.What are the main differences between the lamps we use to see what we are doing & the UV lamp the gel cures.

4. Do the lights (not Lamps clients have hands in) contain any UV what so ever?

Any other info gladly received

The lamp is called daylight as it produces the same sort of light that you would get during the day.
It doesnt contain Uv as far as I am aware, I have never had a problem with mine and using gels.
Its to do with the light quality and colour saturation thats its called daylight chick.
It has NO UV powers.

I have a Daylight UV lamp and a pop out Daylight lamp and it has never cured the gel. Daylight is the company name, the lamp's brightness is supposed to copy that of true daylight and not distort colours etc as can happen with some lights. x

That is what was a little confusing, if it is designed to produce/copy true daylight, well true daylight cures gel.

I just noticed when I was at Olympia

1.The competition techs at the back of the show all had Daylight lights over their work stations.

2.On some of the stands where they were showing gels in open pots, some of the gels were curing, as they said "from the lights at the show".

Therefore just wondering if it could make my gels go thicker, quicker, by using or not using my table lamp. IUSWIM

Its daylight not UV light hun, Mine has never cured my gels or made them thicker.
I dont know how it would have cured the gel in the pots, maybe they had the gel too close to their uv lamps at olympia.

"I dont know how it would have cured the gel in the pots, maybe they had the gel too close to their uv lamps at olympia."

busybee-I wondered the same thing, but no. The gels were on the counter for us to see & the lamp they used for curing was UNDER the counter so no where near the gel.

It wasn't just one pot that had a cured film on top it was a few.
They said "it was the lights in Olympia"

A mystery!!!!!!:confused::confused:

having demo-ed at olympia on several occasions, i can explain this.
if any one were to look up at olympia they would see that it has a glass roof. its just like a giant conservatory really so the natural daylight pours through from above and causes gels to start curing in the pots if the lids are left off.

:eek:how stupid am I.... I didn't think to look up..Duhhhh
That explains it beautifully.
Now I won't be so anal about keeping my gel away from the light, it was becoming tricky.
Many thanks.x
