With 24 colours (soon to be 30) available that is a hell of a lot to choose from, an even more for those of us about to start Shellac to buy.

So how many do you think is a good number to start with to balance range available and initial cost.

Also any 'must have' colours?

I would say minimum 20 colours to start (you can make so many more colours too by layering these. One of the must-have colours has to be Iced Coral for layering over anything and Neglegèe for layering and for French. See how just one coat of Negligèe over the colours in the image below changes them and softens them?

Solessence | Beauty, Fashion, Lifestyle » CND: Shellac Layering: Negligee (http://www.solessence.com/swatches-nails/cnd-shellac-layering-negligee/)

My Top 20!!

Iced Coral
Negligèè
Creme Puff
Red Baroness
Decadence
Rock Royalty
Fedora
Hollywood
Wildfire
Cocoa
Iced Cappuccino
Hot Chillis
Tutti Frutti
Tropix
Strawberry
Smoothie
Rose Bud
Gotcha
Mother of Pearl
Romantique

These would be my top 20 but in truth I couldn't live without Blackpool as well:green: With Blackpool and Negligèè you get the most stunning midnight blue an with Blackpool and Iced coral a breathtaking green and you've saved yourself the cost of two extra colours. With Mother of pearl you can make any colour sparkle and glitter.

Might as well invest properly and not be short of options. Lord .. to think of how folks complained when we only had 12 colours and now thinking 30 is too many to choose from.

I started off with 12 but there were definite gaps in the colours that I needed. I keep buying a few more and thinking that'll be enough but I know i'll end up with them all!

When I first got them I thought I'd never use iced coral as I'm not keen on it on it's own but it is AMAZING when layered. Have fun!

You may not personally be keen on Iced Coral on its own, but funnily enough it is one of our most asked for colours on its own (we have an older clientele and they love it because it goes with everything and the regrowth is not so noticeable). Never trust your own opinion of colours .. it's the clients' opinion that counts. AND you can never second guess or anticipate your clients' opinion as you will always get it wrong!! :green:

They do a salon rack that starts with 6 colours and I added gotcha, cream puff and negligée for layering options. The salon rack includes the base and top too. I did think I would never use iced coral but as Geeg said, the layering options are endless!! Xx

For nude colours cappuccino with Romantique makes the most gorgeous nude colour (see cnd vid), used on a bride recently, it looked amazing. As well as using them on their own.

I bought the rack to start with with 6 colours and added a couple of colours. Within a week I had ordered the whole lot. We have never been very busy with nails. We do a lot of pedicures but manicures and file and paint for hands have never been very popular. Shellac is popular though and we do a lot, well for us anyway.
I am currently wearing blackpool with iced coral on the top. I only had them done yesterday and my first client after having them done just loved them and will probably book in soon.
I ummed and aahed about getting Shellac in as, like I said, we didn't do many hand treatments. I wish I hadn't left it so long now as it's proving very popular and I think if you are going to get it in then you need all the colours really.

Thanks for the replies guys! My plan is to start off with 12 and then very quickly get the rest ... Just need to spread the cost slightly.

I'm really excited about bringing Shellac to Wolverhampton! And I hope it is a great way to introduce clients to me with a treatment that doesn't need any clothes being taken off.

You will be mega busy with shellac, also do rockstar toes these are now more popular than minx in my area and you can do this as an extra service for toes with very little expense as you will only need glitter! Good luck x

Once you start with Shellac you won't stop, I love getting new colours. Started off with the salon rack and gradually adding more. Also layering combos are great, you csn get so many more colours and effects! :-)

Keep us posted!

Fozzy ... Why don't you ring Debbie Davis at sweet squared 01132173801 (director of education) and ask fer you local Shellac EA to come visit you in the salon and give you a class there? Or have you arranged another class? Either way, good luck and Shellac WILL bring many to your door, believe me. X

I was chatting to S2 customer service this week about training, I need to do the Finger Nails Naturally first! I have no Nails experience at all at present.

They are going to get back to me with dates for the next courses in Shropshire.
