View Full Version : So annoyed with Cold Callers
Well I've added my business details to various free listings, like you do:rolleyes:
Now this is where i'm starting to get hacked off, yesterday I had a call from apparently ''google'' and she started explaining that she could get me on the front page, after 10 minutes of her going through her spiel,in which time I'd actually answered another call,in hope that she would hang up,but no she carried on,eventually I got fed up and asked her if what she was going on about was going to be free:twisted: This is when she gets shirty and says ''oh no it's £100 per month with a 12 month contract'' I laughed and told her that no way have I got that type of money and my money at the moment is going back into my salon, obviously disappointed she hangs up,fine no problem.
But now I've just had a phone call with some jumped up little ass from ''infoserve'' trying to get me to do a paid for page listing on yahoo local,I stopped him after a moment and explained that I do not want to do a paid listing at this moment and that I'm only interested in free listings currently as a lot of my business is through word of mouth, and I just do not have the funds to do paid for listings @ £100 per month, now this is where he started getting nasty with me and said that without paid for listings then I will have ''NO'' clients, cheeky feck,I calmly explained that without me putting my money into my services and products and training,I have no services or products to offer hence no clients,he starts to lecture me about business OMG,I can understand that at some point I will need to have a look at paid for listings, but at this current moment in time I need to put my money into products and training, and my clients are all from the free listings and word of mouth. This guy got really nasty with me and told me he hoped my business would fail, charming really!! I told him he was getting my back up now and I hung up on him,but for crying out loud,
In future I'm not going to even bother taking these calls,if I want to place ads with these people in future I will call you.
I'm raving right now,and needed to get this off my chest
Do you guys hang up on them, leave them on the line holding, how the hell do you get rid of them?
Rant over now,and breathe 2 3 4,feel better,thanks guys:wink2:

I have tried all manners of dealing with them but always find they manage to wind you up.
Now I have caller id and only answer local dialling code no's and mobiles.
I rarely get tricked into speaking to them now and any bona fide clients always leave a message as they know I may be with a client.

When I get calls like these I either say I already have paid listings with you thanks and then hang up or I say when I'm ready to advertise I will ring you and then hang up.
I have no intention of wasting my time listening to their transcript but I also apreciate that it's thier job to ring around and I couldn't do cold calling (it's not an easy job if you think about it).
I think the way the one bloke spoke to you was awfull & I think you should try not to engage in any conversation with them as your wasting your time, they want to sell to you and if your not interested just say so and go get on with what you were doing, even though some are very persistant and ring back (I just repeat what I said the first time and hang up again lol).

I had a call just before Christmas he went on and on and on even tho
I said no about a million times, I told him to ring me back After Christmas as I had no money to pay for the advertising although I've ignored there calls right up to now and they've blocked there number so It dont come up haha they must hate me lol! But they won't give up drives me mad! X
I've had the same trouble and it is infuriating but I've done the same as applepie - all numbers are now displayed and I always answer local and ignore the rest. If it is a genuine client they will leave a message. I had a nightmare once with one bloke from a company, I told him I wasn't interested and he said that he was going to carry on ringing my number just to annoy me and he did - he carried on all day but he did give up in the end thank god!

I just tell them I'm the cleaner and can't help as no one else is around lol
Lol! Love it!
I am not the owner of my salon, if they ask for her I tell them she is busy or not in. If she does not have a client I give that phone to her, but only if she is free. I know they will usually be a waste of her time, but since I am not the owner I will not make that decision for her. :)
If they just go into their speech I immediately say "No thank you" very politely and hang up. I know they are just doing their job and there is no need to get annoyed with them.
I just tell them I'm the cleaner and can't help as no one else is around lol
Love this I may just use it lol:D
Thanks guys, it really wound me up, cheeky fecker, calm now though. The annoying thing is I do have bloody caller i.d and all,but being a new business I didn't want to miss calls, but now I can recognize the type of number they were ringing from i.e 0845 or 01611 or along those lines,I'll flick it to my answer phone and let that get them lol I'm definately not getting get caught again:rolleyes:

OMG! a couple weeks ago a lady from some random fake business was trying to sell me advert space on facebook! She went on for aaaages! and actually got very rude towards the end! it was £100 a month and once i told her the money wasn't in my account she continued to tell me to 'just try, you never know it might work' ?!!!
What on earth! That really pissed me off!

definately list your number with the tps - both the business and personal. the calls will take about a month to die off but they do in the end. also if people then call you you just tell them you are registered with tps and will be reporting them and they soon hang up!

I never understand why people feel the need to explain themselves to these folks. I interrupt them straight off, tell them I'm not interested, tell them to remove me from their call list, that being said if they call me again, I will report them to the Trade Commission and hang up. Done.
But then again, I'm an American and we're know for being rude, right? LOL

I usually say thanks but my advertising budget has been allocated for this year, I use tried and trusted methods, please remove me from your caller listing as I don't want to waste anymore of your time. They've generally hung up by then....playing at their own game and not letting them get a word in really works!

If you have the name of the company that contacted you, I would call back and get a hold of their manager and explain that one of their staff was making abusive threatening phone calls. If they are telling you that they hope your business will fail then you could probably report them to BT as well.
Thanks everyone, I know I need to be a little stronger in future and not to automatically defend myself :) I'll just tell I'm not interested or that my budget is spent and leave it at that, any abuse and the phone will be going down lol
LOL Gr8nailz,you make me smile, really you do lol

Calls are one thing, easy just to put the phone down but twice since we opened the same pushy girl has come in trying to sell advertising space in the local newspaper for £100 per week for an advert the size of a postage stamp!
I start by being very polite but she won't take no for an answer and had to be asked to leave.

I paid for a app on my blackberry which blocks sales and private calls. Its heaven! It was £2.99 and its saved so much hassle.
Ive used tps and still get them (not as much but still) and on my home phone i just say hello then put the phone down. I have a annoying international cold call which keeps calling and leaving answer messages which are just 4 seconds of high pitch noise grrr!

I had another one today and as soon as they asked if I was the owner ,I told them politely they would be wasting their time saying anything else as I am fed up with the number of calls - the guy just laughed and said "i really would be wasting my time wouldnt I, have a good day" END OF!!:p
Well got another one earlier, while with a client, obviously apologized to her,as I hadn't realised my phone was in my room :( But i'd already explained to her what had happened earlier in the day,and before I could do anything she grabbed my phone and answered for me lol She asked who was calling and they told her ''infoserve'' so told them feck off the nail tech was in the middle of doing a shellac service and that she's heard about me through word of mouth and I certainly didn't need to be paying them 100 quid a month, well I pmsl, they stuttered and quickly hung up.Maybe I should just do this in future lol :)

I simply don't answer any numbers I don't recognise. If it is a new client they will leave a message if they want me and I always ring them back even if I know I can't book them in. If it is not your mobile you are talking about then get caller id.

Ask them to 'hold the line' whilst you supposedly go and get the person they want to speak to .......then just leave phone on the desk for 10 Mins whilst they wait!!! Obviously, this stops other clients getting through however, if we all did this companies would eventually have such massive phone bills with no sales that maybe they'd stop hounding us!!!

As i've said before - HANG UP!
You could tell them you have too many clients and couldn't possibly deal with any more!
