Have any of you had a visit from the Valuation Office to see if you should be paying business rates for running a business from home?
They are due to come and see me shortly after sending me a letter about running my business from home.
I don't use my room solely for treatments, it is also my guest bedroom and my dressing room.

Hi there, did u contact the VOA?? How did they know u were working from home?? If u use ur room for other uses ie spare bedroom/ office etc... Then u shouldn't have to pay business rates, that is what I was told from the council!! If u do need to pay, it is deducted from ur annual council tax bill xx hope this helps xx

I haven't had a visit but before I started working from home I contacted the council re business rates. They confirmed that as I'm using my room for a spare room too and no structural changes were being made then no business rates would apply. HTH. PGx
Hi
when i started working from home i phoned the local council who told me that if i was also using my beauty room as a bedroom from time to time i didn't need to pay business rates.
Today i had a strange phone call. A lady phoned and asked to speak to the person in charge of paying business rates. I replied that would be me and then the phone went dead?? Any thoughts on this?? has this happened to anyone else??

tara1, that all seems very very strange. Did she withhold her number? What you were told by the council is the same as I was told (so I presume correct) so to have someone then call you about it is weird. Let us know if you get any other suss phone calls.
