Hi all,

Wondered if any of you that are trained in facials/make up could help me. Until the age of 24, I never had a spot on my skin....ever. I was then diagnosed with severe endometriosis and PCOS and as a result have suffered with some pretty horrendous spots on a regular basis, pretty much ALWAYS on my chin. They are always massive, almost boil like spots and they have left me with the most awful scarred skin now, to the point it looks like the spots are still there and a few of them are absolutely massive scars.

I have been applying solar oil daily but nothing is happening and the scars aren't fading at all. I have also spent an absolute bomb on several different foundations over the years, trying to find something that will not look like I have thick make up on but yet covers the scars and spots at the same time to no avail.

I have tried a mineral make up previously but can't remember the brand and it cost me an arm and a leg and did nothing but make me look like I had really thick coloured powder all over my face, looked awful

Can anyone PLEASE recommend a make up brand that will a) be good for my skin and b) actually covers the spots without looking like I've put it on with a trowel? Am beginning to feel so self concious about it and I just don't have the money to keep shelling out trying different products and then having to throw them away because they are useless!

Someone has recommended Jane Iredale or Bare Essensuals for me to try, are these any good? Am dubious about spending out on yet more make up that is rubbish.

Also any tips for how I can reduce the scarring using things I may have in the home/natural methods would be greatly appreciated, I hate my face at the mo and sadly regular facials just aren't an option due to financial constraints  I've heard applying lemon juice to the scars helps, is this true?

Many thanks in advance xx

hi planky , acne on the chin area is usually a sign of hormonal disharmony. there are a few herbal remedies that you could try . pm me or if there is a herbalist or health food shop close to you give them a shout.
artdeco do camuflague creams that have great coverage. they are'nt dear and you don't have to use a lot of it

Aww - poor love

I have bad purple scars on my chin from spots - its always there that they pop up at certain times of the month and like you they still look like they're there when they're gone.

Since its only on one area - I would say you don't need an amazing coverage foundation (since you don't want thick make up all over) use whatever foundation and you might want to look up the Lise Watier Colour Correction Wheel. It's canadian but seriously this has changed make up for the better for me. It has five different colours in it for different areas. The green in it counteracts the red areas and then theres a purple (think that might be for under eyes) and three different tone concealers. Theyre so easy to work with and one swipe over your scars and they're smooth!! It's incredible!!

hope this helps - Lise Watier is more difficult to get hold of but an Canadian / American eBay seller will stock it x

Thanks for your replies.

Rinn, hormones are a shocking mess (just ask my husband Lol!) due to the endo so that makes sense, I know as well that I'm B12 deficient, would this affect my skin?

Karen, I'm not overly keen on buying products like this on eBay as you don't know if it's the real thing or what's in them. I will have a search to read up on the product you've mentioned. Whilst the worst of my spots are on my chin, the rest of my face isn't exempt by any means, this is just the worst area :wink2:

Here is a pic of my chin, if that should help anyone, no make up on, just to show it in it's full glory :o

I would seriously recommend going for a consultation at a salon that uses Environ products as the vitamin a in the products will really help. Also try Jane iredale makeup as it will cover but also feed your skin. The minerals are anti inflammatory too so if you do have a hormonal flare up it will help heal it quicker.

Hope that helps xx

I really don't have the money to spend on any type of professional facial, I know this is the BEST option but we're literally struggling to just feed ourselves at the moment so no way I can afford the luxury of regular facials. My mum has offered to buy me some make up but I don't want to waste her money on yet more products that don't work, hence my post. I had heard that Jane Iredale is really good make up, just anxious whether it looks really cakey as other mineral make up's I've tried are?

I had a feeling you might have said that and that's fair enough - but if you find a business seller then they're not just a random cowboy selling a knock off :) I'm sure there's other ways to source it. Bobbi Browns Creamy Concealer is also meant to be amazing x

Definitely try Jane Iredale, pure pressed base foundation. If you need extra coverage then you could use their dream tint under it. I have a client suffering from exactly the same as you. She has regular Eve Taylor facials with me and her skin is defintely improving. I recommended she try Jane Iredale (I'm not a stockist!) as I was concerned that what she was using on her face to try and conceal the problem was actually making it worse. She has used Jane Iredale for the last month and couldn't be happier, she says that for the first time ever she can cover the scarring/breakouts but doesn't feel that she is caked in make up.

Give it a try Planky, make sure that you go to a stockist who knows their stuff and can match your skin colour properly.

Thank you, I will have a look

Diane, will definitely look at this then as I'm being given lots of good recommendations for it. I had seen one of those teleshopping ads selling Sheer Cover make up but having done some research on it the reviews were bad. But almost everyone on these reviews also mentioned Jane Iredale or Bare Essensuals. Other people have also been mentioning these 2 to me too.

Thank you for your help.

Any tips for how to reduce the scarring myself at all anyone? Xx

Try using the contents of a broken vitamin E capsule over the scars. The skin healing properties are meant to be really good for scarring and it's only a few quid for a decent sized bottle.

Hi Planky,
First of all your skin is not as bad as you perceive it to be. We all home in on our bad points!

Definitely understand the annoyance of buying and binning foundations.

What I suggest you do is go along to a Bare Minerals counter and have them apply a trial for you.
I know you have tried minerals before, but either the brand has not been of a good standard, or you haven't used the right technique. Both are essential for a good finish. There should be no sign of powder on your skin; sounds like you've loaded on too much, but a free trial will show you the way.

A good mineral foundation is actually good for your skin, but a small minority may react to BM, so try before you buy.

Your scarring may be helped by Decleor Prolagene gel. A facial by an expert would be ideal to gain advice, but you can get free info/advice from a Decleor counter or research on-line.

Good luck!

As said above a small number of people may have a reaction to some mineral foundations. One of the ingredients that can cause a reaction is Bismuth Oxychloride, which unfortunately Bare Minerals contains, so it is definitely worth trying before you make a purchase decision with Bare Minerals. Jane Iredale doesn't contain Bismuth, so the risk of a reaction is reduced. However, as said before, definitely try before you buy. Get shown the proper application of both products and trial them both to ensure that your skin is happy with them.

of course it is good to be cautious but just wanted to mention that Ive bought loads of make up (and other products) on ebay, never had any problems whatsoever!

Lily Lolo is a cheaper mineral make up brand than bare minerals (and its brill) and you can order samples of their foudations (for 1.75 each plus postage 1.99) to try out on their website, just an idea too! x

Bare Minerals sounds so familiar that I think this must be the one I tried maybe. I got it from a large John Lewis make up counter, or might have been house of Fraser perhaps but it cost an absolute bomb, around £65 I think for all the bits I apparently needed and even though I had hardly any on the brush when I used it, it was very noticeable on my face and I don't know if it was the brushes or the make up itself but my skin got itchy and hot when I used it.

Bare Essensuals, I'm assuming is a different brand? Or have people telling me about it just got it confused with Bare Minerals and it's actually the same make up, they just got the name wrong?

Where can I get a trial of Jane Iredale done/ from? Is this also something I can find in a department store or is it more specialist?

Hi Planky

It looks like you can get samples of Jane Iredale on www.musthave.co.uk you just have to pay the postage x

What is your skincare routine at the moment and what products do you use ?

I used to stock Jane Iredale and still use some of the products and the pressed powder is excellent but it just didn't give me the coverage I needed. I have oily/spot prone skin and have lots of scars on my chin from having acne when I was younger.

I use Laura Mercier liquid foundation with JI pure pressed powder over the top or if Im having a lazy day just the Laura Mercier powder. I think the powder and foundation are about £30 each and you can buy them from Space NK.
I buy quite a lot of Laura M make up now as the service in Space is outstanding, every single time I have gone in for a colour match or even to buy a present for someone else I've come out with a full make over !

Have you been to the doctors about your skin ? Can I ask why you are applying solar oil to the scarring if you are still getting spots ?

BM used to be BE.

No use if you've had a reaction in the past, though.

Hope you get on well with one of the others.x

I'm fairly certain that Jane Iredale can't be purchased in any Department stores, although someone please correct me if I am wrong! Best bet would be to find a Salon/Spa/Therapist in your area that stocks and works with the range to test for colour/coverage etc.
