Hi Geeks

I just wanted to see if anyone can help. I recently started doing airbrush make up and I did a bridal trial for a lady last night as she wanted her make up done for going out.

Anyway, she has had severe acne a while ago (nothing active at the moment) but has lots of scars and pitting, I managed to give her a really good coverage, but when I asked her if she liked it her reply was "Its ok for a night out but on the day I want all the scars fillled in so my skin is smooth.

now I'm feeling very uneasy and completely out of my depth, is there anything that fills these pits that I should know about or is she expecting too much?

anybody got any ideas? she wouldnt let me take any pics of her before or after so am completely stuck there too

I think there is a product you can get to fill in scars in this way, possibly a Dermablend product?? I don't know what it's called though. I imagine you would need to practise a bit to get it nice and even, but with an airbrush you might find it easier to get it smooth after applying the filler.

There is a Laura Mercier primer called 'spackle' which is the American term for polyfilla, so that might be strong enough to smooth into pitted scars??

Thank you hun I will have a look at that now. Xx

The LM primer didn't make much difference to my uneven skin tone and open pores not sure it would with acne either....sorry no advice as not my field but thought I'd let you know re the LM primer anyway good luck. x

You need to get before and after pic so you have a photographic record of what you do and along with any note you make, so when I comes to the wedding day you have both written and photographic notes to use on the day of the wedding to refer back to.

As well as being a MUA I am also professional camouflage practitioner a client has servere acne and has been left with scaring she willb need a professional camouflage makeup application rather than a primer!

You could ask the bride if she wants another trial in order to rectify the problem or refer her to camouflage makeup practitioner?

Thank for the replies:hug:

I always take pics of before and after to put in my portfolio, but my lady was adamant on not having any pics before " with no make up on" so I just had to use my little note book as I went along.
I used the paramedical range from Dinair with is extra coverage for her skin condition, she liked the make up but she wants the pitted skin "filled in" even though we had achieved an even skin tone (really not sure if this is achievable to fill in skin).

After I had finished and asked If I could take a picture, she refused saying she didn't like having her picture taken, and her friends had started arriving for their night out. her friends commented with wows ect, but I ended up leaving feeling a failure as I couldn't meet her expectations.

What your clients wants is something that only a camouflage makeup practitioner like myself can offer. There are products on the maket that can fill in indented scars, however you need to trained in aplication to be to get a professional result.

You need to honest with her that you are not trianed in camouflage makeup (which she prob needs) and give her the oppertunity to:

A) hire and camouflage makeup practitioner as well you
B) hire a camouflage makeup practioner that can also do wedding makeup

Oooh can I hijack your thread to ask about Dinair? I've just ordered the airbrush kit and wondered what you thought of it. Is the paramedical stuff any good? I would eventually like to do the BASC course in skin camouflage but for the time being was wondering if this gives good coverage over acne/rosacea.

Any general feedback on Dinair would be great too - do you use it just for foundation or for blush, eyes and lips too?

Thank you so much Lady M, I actually feel relived that she perhaps needs a more specialist service than I can provide and I haven't failed.

Just out of interest do you know anyone that can provide this service that is close to worcestershire? and I could give her details.

Emsyj, I totally love dinair, the paramedical range is really good for the extra coverage for scars and uneven skin tone, I do use the blush, eyeshadow and lips. It all takes lots of practice after training but I find my clients love it.

Fabulous, glad you like it - it's a big investment but I just love the look of it so hoping I can get the hang of it. There's a makeup school that does airbrush training not far from me but the course covers body art etc that I'm not really interested in and it's over £1k too - will see how I get on... !

Re: camouflage make up, either the Red Cross or the British Association of Skin Camouflage should be able to help - the BASC hold a register of trained camouflage artists I think.

or your client could try google to see if the are any qualifed camouflage makeup practitioners in her area :)

Even if you loose the client, you have not failed as you have done the best you can within limits of your skill set.

By being honest with your client that you can not achieve what she wants and telling her, she may need to see some else to help reduce the apperance of her scaring, Im sure she will be please and thankful that you have her best interests a heart and that you were being professional about the situation.

I do a lot of camouflage makeup for brides tattoo covering, scaring etc and they very high expectations on how they want their coverage to look and it can get quite emotional at times when the see themselves without the scars or birthmarks, so you have to know what your doing and know what proper after care and advice to give etc

Lady M xx

Artdeco have a camouflage system that is for regular professional makeup artists and can be used by those practicing skin camouflage.

It is waterproof and very long lasting comes in pens and palettes, when used with the normal makeup system it works perfectly to allow everyday usuage by the consumer let alone a professional.

Can be used to cover tatoos, let alone skin conditions.

ps the Artdeco HD foundation can be used with an airbrush. ssshh.

Jane Iredale Absence Primer is great for evening out large pores, lines and pockmarks, their Pure Pressed Base covers any type of discolouration and scarring and the Disappear concealer is perfect for spots and helps clear them up. Also it does not breed germs so she won't get more spots, is hypoallergenic, and cruelty free! :)
