View Full Version : Bleaching
Hey guys, not been on here in ages, missed u all!!!
Anyhow, done some strand tests today, client with black hair wants red highlights, she said she had used a back home box before now so thought b red would lift, tested with 12% and heat for 15 mins, nothing, in total it was on for 35 mins. Couldn't notice anything in indoor light. So I tried bleach and 9 with a dab of the b red, heat and 50 mins later nothing, re tried with bleach 12% and a dab, 50 mins with heat again, virtually no change, slight visibility but mainly in natural light.
Anyone got any ideas on how to get this black out, it's a nightmare.
Main problem is she has about 8" of tiny left and theres is natural (about a base 3) of about 8" so is going to be a nightmare me thinks.
Cutting out the tint isn't a option as she had it cut today and asked about the colour while in.
Any ideas? Xoxo

you're probably going to need to bleach bath with 10 vol to lift all over, which will take the edge off the black, then lift with bred and 20 vol max, and flood with a pro black semi...
if you've got any hair left to test, try the bleach bath and the bred just to make sure it works.
unless you use any reducers then that would be much better condition wise.
although the fact she dyes it herself at home, would lead me to believe she won't want to pay for a big colour correction just to achieve some red highlights in the colour she already has.
missed you too tomme, hows you?

oh and just as an afterthought...probably a stupid question but did you dry it when you'd finished? bred never looks red until its dry...normally looks black lol

im actually goin throught the same thing with one of my clients. strand test didnt take after apparently a demi box dye.....bs....I had tried so red R on with 12% as it works great on pre exsisting dark bases. However god knows whats shes put on her hair as its not taken much, a bit but not much. My clients a natural 8 and has darker hair than me of base 3!!!
So instead im going to lift with vlight, then put my so red R on as its gona be a biatch to lift out this black without her wanting to have it removed!!!! Grrrr!!! xoxo

How long are her shortest layers (presuming she's not one length) can you not just foil along the parting? Or do the ends on the shorter layers still have tint on?
The only other thong i can think of is strip the black as much as possible x
I'm good perry you?
The layers are about 2 inches shorter than the length, so it's not really an option.
I'm guessing she's been putting the colour all through te length with each root regrowth she does ( was told she had to use 3 boxes each time)
I don't think she would want to pay for the bleach bath and re tint myself, or have the time for it. I light suggest blocks of the colour " here and there" that way I could try to bleach bath these sections and fill in with b red saves having to flood the rest too and hopefully stand out more vibrant in blocks.
Oh and yes I had dried it after each trial.
Not going to hold my breath too much though, if bleach and 12% can't lift it after 50 mins with heat I don't think there's a lot of chance for her other than some good advice of when she ever does her roots again only do the roots and none of the rest.xoxo
Just thinking about how hard it was to lift my aunts hair from a 4 box colour to a 8, she had done root to end every time she coloured it.
Worst part was she bilieves she can see a lot of grey after 1 week so used to do it weekly.
Now I don't for her I claim I'm fully booked for 3 weeks so she can't have it done so often. It's a he'll of a lot harder doing 2 mm if that roots rather than a good 1 cm without over lapping the "mid lengths" and that's if you can call under a centimetre mid length haha xoxo
If you have access to scruples illusionist color I would highly recommend it!! It is a single process color made for lifting colored hair! I know it sounds to good to be true...but it works beautifully!! The colors range from reds to blondes! I have had great success with it!!

Sounds like it's worth the try!! Do you happen to know if it's available here in US?
Sent from my HTC Glacier
Yes you can get it in the US I get it from peerless beauty supply. If you google it I bet you can find a supplier.. Good luck.
Iv not heard of that colour, b red works well on coloured hair usually and lifts and deposits at te same time, iv done a few more tests with different mix's such as a sprinkle of bleach, equal parts with bleach and b red, tonnes of bleach on for just a few strands.
The extensions spins the best idea so far but it means sending her away, then again it's better than a client angry because she's sat about for a few hours for her hair to look the same as it did coming in. Xoxo
