Which market

I hope this isn't a stupid question, but I've been wondering - gel polish, is the intended market, professionals or is it do yourself at home manicures?

Not being particularly accurate with the old nail varnish I can't see me doing a great DIY manicure with any gel polish but looking at the sales pitch its open to interpretation.

What's your opinion?

At the moment Gel and Power polishes like Gelish and Shellac are professional only products aimed at the pro with a manicure qualification, and after training in their respective product will have a good working knowledge of it.
Gel polishes especially require a pro knowledge as they can cause allergic reactions.
