I had a set of L&p and another gellux booked in for today at the same address. One of the girls text asking if I could do their friend gellux toes at the same time. I told her not a problem and gave the price. This morning I got a text saying " the toes are sick but we will see you at 1"

I've never seen sick toes but I'm assuming it's the person the toes are attached to that is sick hahaha.

What the best or most random reason for cancellation you have had?

Lol sick toes :) that's a first. Hope they get better soon lol.

I had one girl who had booked in for £70 worth of treatments who I text the morning to say I would be seeing her soon. She replied " sorry I cant today,my dad is taking me out"

I informed her she would be billed for the appointment and time wasted to which she replied her dad is now poorly and she needs to look after him :/ seriously - she just said I'm going out. Trying to get out of paying her bill. I politely told her not too book in with me again. I was raging!!

I once had a new client booked in for several treatments, I think a 3 hour slot, she didn't show up so after 15 mins I called her mobile, and she answered and said "Oh I am still shopping, can I make it to you in about an hour and half and just have the manicure ?" so this women expects me to wait around and lose 2hours of money while she shops ! Cheek ! As you can imagine I was fuming but stayed calm and said yes you can come in for your nails :evil:but you will need to be with me by x time and I will need to charge a cancellation fee for the 2 hours missed as I could have filled that time. Guess what she didn't show up ! Just as well I do not need clients like that.

Not a client, but a supplier, but worth retelling anyway.
I was having bother trying to contact a supplier; no answer to emails, phone calls and texts. After a particularly frustrated message I got a text saying that they had been in a car accident abroad, and that they'd been knocked out cold, and that they'd sustained many injuries, whiplash, airbag burns and fractured ribs. Flipppin' heck! I sent them flowers and wished them well, and asked them to contact me when they were feeling better.
No contact for a couple more weeks. I emailed, apologising for harassing them, and got an email back saying that they'd been readmitted to hospital for an emergency appendicectomy which turned into a major operation!

What an awful run of bad luck.

Imagine my horror when I discover that the entire tale is a pack of lies.

These are making me chuckle... :) I have to admit I have been late for appointments before now... But I WILL say I haven't been late since they started sending reminder texts! :) I just simply got distracted and forgot :o
Then as the time got close I'd have that "I'm supposed to be doing something..." feeling and I'd race in out of breath and looking like a tomato LOL
Thankfully the girls where I go for my treatments are lovely! :)

Oh my days! Just went to a new client. Her and her friend wanted a spray tan,got to her house and she didn't answer. So I Messaged her and she didn't reply. Went on her Facebook profile and she had a tan yesterday by someone else. So I Messaged her and she said "well yeah I always have 2 tans in 1 week. I couldn't do it today as I have to take my son to hospital. Took a screen shot of her Facebook showing her statuses today stating she was in waiting for shoes and can't wait to go out!! Seriously peed off!! Have old her to expect my invoice in the post and not to book in with me again.

That is awful! How did you find out they were lying?

It's a very long and convoluted story but I found out via a member of their family. I also discovered that pretty much everything they had told me over the course of 3 years was a lie too.

Some of it would make your hair stand on end!

I had a new client a few weeks back, had been booked in by a family member as a birthday treat. She didn't show, however she called me about half an hour later to apologise. Her husband had taken her to the car lot in the morning as a surprise and told her to pick one out. She'd been so excited about her new car she forgot the appointment.

I forgave her, she said it was the first time she had ever had a brand new car and got overwhelmed, and she re-booked for the following week. Turned up on time and was a lovely client.

I remember years ago my sister had just started doing a lady's nails she'd done her prep and glued the tips on when the lady received a phone call and rushed from the salon, with tips still at their full length. They later found out her husband had suffered a heart attack and he later passed away and to this day the lady can't remember how she got those nails off. This is going back around 11 years and she still comes fortnightly to this day..

I had a lady book an appt for 11am for shellac. 11am comes and goes, called her at 11.15, she answers, I asked her if she was coming and all flustered she responds, I'm sorry I'm running late, I'll be there in 5 mins is that ok. I said that fine as long as she is not too far off.

Waited, waited no show. Next day I receive this text- Hey sorry this is the message I tried sending u yesterday sorry I wasnt thinking straight.... Hey sorry u caught me at a bad time I am so sorry in a important meeting totally forgot!!! I am so sorry can I cancel I dnt want to mess u around!!! I will pay for the time if that's ok?

I was miffed on how to respond to it. I don't really want the bother of taking money it was more my energy as I'm very sick with sinus infections so getting ready for the appt (only one for the day) and getting the house clean was a pain in the a** lol!

what would she do if her grandad really did get sick?

I hate when clients/people make excuses up like this! especially when they use children, don't ever tempt fate with your kids! ever.

Always reminds me of something a friend said to her boss to get out of going to work because she wanted to go to a camping festival 'I can't come in for a few days as my dad is seriously ill in hospital' .......

A few months later her dad got pneumonia & ended up in intensive care (he did live, but only just) I never reminded her of the lie she'd told but I couldn't help thinking about it.

That's a lie that definetly bit her on the bum!

She will not be getting anymore appointments with me now as to mess me around twice within 9 days is too much. x

I had someone ring the salon today at 12.15 to say that they cant make their appointment that was at 12. She just said on the phone that she had an appiontment at 12 and can make it and that was it one of the haurdressers took the call,

i was really mad as the lady i had just before was half hr late and i could do her leg wax as i though i had this other girl in at 12. So i could have done her, also at 5 to 12 somone came in and said can i do a manicure i said sorry i cant got somone in at 12. And i could of done it.

So i rang back and left a message to say i have a 50% cancelation fee and mention that i had turn down othet work and woukd like her to come in to pay. Iv never enforsed this before but i was so mad.

Well an hour later i get a call saying it was because she was in a five car pile up. Well i feel bad now but why did she not say can come because of an emergency or somthing the way she said it, it was like she just had found somthing better to do.

And the more i thnk about it, if i was in a five car pile up it wouldnt cross my mind to ring to cancel my appointment. X

I had a lovely client years back who came every week for a manicure, we used to chat loads so I knew everything about her family etc.
one day she didn't turn up for her appointment which was unusual. She called a couple of days later to apologise and let us know that she was a grandma!
Her 16 year old daughter had given birth to a baby on the bathroom floor that morning, they didn't even know she was pregnant!
It all turned out to be true, I let her off the cancellation charge:0)

I had one call me 10 mind before their rebalance appointment to say she couldn't make it because her next door neighbours cat has died! She must of recovered from her grief quickly as that afternoon I saw her shopping in the high street as I drove by 😳

Therapists do it too though. I once booked in for a spray tan at a local salon. The morning of my appointment my friend called me to say xxx called (the tanner) to say she can't do your tan at lunch because her child is really sick at the hospital. She couldn't call as she lost my number. I called another salon and she could fit me in for the same time, again driving past I saw the first lady in her salon doing someone's nails!!! Her child was not sick at all, I even got confirmation from my son who said she's been in school all day 😏

Ive had a client cancel because she had a hangover! The hairdressers I work in had a client who last week was late for her appointment, when they called her she said 'I'm having trouble parking won't be long'......never turned up. And its not the first time she's done this. Makes me wonder where she's going?!!

Can't believe people have the cheek to keep doing it, and that they even have the time to make appointments to then make up lame excuses and waste our precious time.

A few weeks ago I had a man ring me up wanting to book a massage for the next morning. He was 15 minutes late so I rang him, he said he was on his way back (from where?) and would be leaving to come to me in 10 minutes. I said it was ok as I didn't have anyone in until the afternoon, so I waited. And waited. I rang him again but there was no answer, I was really annoyed that he'd wasted so much of my time when I had loads of paperwork I could have been getting on with. He then sent me a text nearly 2 hours later asking if it was too late to come in! Couldn't believe the cheek! I did get a funny feeling though that he thought I offer a different kind of massage and could just turn up when he felt like it...

The clients who don't work but just flap around doing nothing pretending to be busy are the worst as they have no concept as to what effect a "no show" can do for your business. They've never had to work for a living and think we just play around painting nails every now and then.

So far I haven't had many excuses made from clients BUT the few I have had are pretty good ones :

Firstly there was the 'i've got to go to the dentist can we move the appointment to the 8am ( so i agreed as I prefer to start early) anyway it got to the morning i got up nice and early, I was just about to leave when I got a text saying sorry have to go to the dentist now, got really bad toothache, so I thought okay far enough and let it go, it wasnt until i bumped into her friend who dropped her in it and said she had gone home to Poland, and nearly missed her flight because she was wanting to get her lashes done!!

Why cant they just tell us the truth ?

The second best one was, my client was texting me 20 minutes before her appointment and wanted to get her friend booked in at the last minute but I couldnt fit both in, so as I left for her house ( she lives 5 mins away) she text and put "actually dont want it doing today anyway" bloody cheek of it!!!!!!

I sent a reminder text to one of my clients the day before her treatment (was early the next morning and was a load of waxing) she was really happy with everything and said nothing will stop me having my waxing! She then text me at 6 the next morning (wasn't happy being woken up at that time) saying her daughter had a cough and she had to look after her. This was a weekend when her hubby was at home to look after her daughter while she had her waxing done but he obviously wasn't capable enough to look after his ten year old with a cough!!

Also, I had someone that said can you do mine and my 2 daughters nails at ours as I have to look after my son today so I don't want to bring all of them in the car to yours and the hubby is at work. I got to theres, walked in and who was lying on the sofa watching tv, drinking a beer and having a smoke with no t shirt on?? Her husband!!!!! I was so angry that she lied to me and didnt even attempt to tell her husband her lie!!

Had 2 young girls booked in for spray tans weeks in advance after being recommended by other clients. I generally get clients to come to me but as they couldn't drive I offered to go mobile. Anyhow I get a text day before from one of girls letting me know that the tans were cancelled as the other one had 'let her down'! Urrrr you are letting me down more! I text back in a polite manner to say that she could still have her tan without her friend. I didn't hear anything back! Lol

The last time she was in she insisted on booking in for refills so I gave her the last appointment and told her if she wasn't there on time I would just head home assuming she had had her baby...No,No she said I'll have had it by then, I'll be in .....

nuts. .lol

I had a mother and daughter who came together for their lash extensions. They were due one Sunday morning. On the Saturday night I get a text from the daughter "we've both got styes on our eyes. We were hoping they'd go down but they haven't. Can we rearrange or Thursday" I rearranged even tho I wasn't convinced they both had styes!! Thursday came and I of course asked after their eyes/styes - the mother had NO IDEA what I was on about!!! It was pretty embarrassing... And the mother had about 5 lashes left and expected to just pay infill prices. Needless to say they are no longer my clients. I pride myself on being honest and flexible - and I can't stand liars - there's just no need.

Hey guys,
Slightly off topic but i could really use the advice...I've recently produced a cancelation policy and require deposits to secure appointments, I'm just wondering how can you really enforce a cancelation fee for those of us that are mobile? For example I had a new client book in for l&p she text me 2 hours before her appointment and asked to move it to the same time but the day after so I agreed. Then she text me 30 mins before that and simply said "sorry can't make it" so if I send her an invoice, won't she just bin it? How do you enforce your cancellation Policies?

I had a lady booked in shellac mani & pedi a few weeks ago ready for her birthday weekend, i moved things round to fit her in which she knew, i literally bent over backwards to accommodate her. She sent me pictures of nails she wanted so is pent all my spare time practicing the design so it would be perfect for her, sent her the pictures of what I'd done to ensure she was happy. She was really pleased with how my practices looked and said she couldn't wait for me to do them.

i got a text from her 2 hours before her appointment to say she had been rushed in to hospital for a blood transfusion and was very poorly an needed to cancel an was my cancellation policy still applicable under these circumstances as she'd ensure to transfer the money ASAP if they were.
I text her back saying how sorry I was to hear that an I hoped she was ok and of course I would not charge her under these circumstances an if there was anything I could do to help blah blah blah.
10 minutes later she changed her Facebook status to "getting on it early with the girls wahoo happy birthday me" tagged at the local bar with a picture of them drinking cocktails with a big clock showing the time an date behind them :/.
I printed the picture and the screen shot of her status attached it to the invoice and posted it through her door along with a happy birthday card & get well soon card. Naughty I know but she infuriated me!
Safe to say I've never heard back from her & she deleted me off Facebook!

Haha, sorry but I love your payback. People think I was mean when I too deposits and charged no shows but my only reason for no show or cancellation on the day would be the client them self is dead.
And how awful to blame something so traumatic as a reason, maybe she will need one one day. Fingers crossed? Xoxo

Had to reply after what just happened first thing this morning. Lady came in for her shellac appointment heavily pregnant and was 5 mins early I asked if I could take her coat and she said 'no sorry I think I'm going to have to cancel' puzzled I asked why and she replied 'I think my waters have just gone!' I looked down and sure enough there was a puddle on my floor! I called her husband for her and told her her next shellac was on me! How exciting :)

Good for you.

How can someone tempt fate by making up an excuse like that!

If I had a salon I would defo charge a substantial deposit at booking time of a £70 treatments. Oh if only I had a card machine !

My favourite was a girl who made an appointment with me and then changed the time and dates many times until she settled on a date. She did not turn up to this appointment. She then texted to say "sorry my boyfriends funeral ran longer than expected"
Maybe it was true, who knows, but how strange for someone to book an appointment straight after a loved ones funeral. Each to their own.

I work from home and have had a couple of ladies in the past who have messed me about with changing Thier appointments. After the second time, I tell them it's best to text me to see if I'm free at short notice. One lady started doing that and it worked, but I never heard again from the second lady. It's very hard to know what to do for the best as it's not worth us having card machines to take deposits. And cancellation policies just might frighten people off.

I had 2 tans booked in and set off (I am mobile). With 25 minutes to go I got a text saying 'sorry have to cancel, I am in hospital'.

It was a new client so text back a nice reply wishing her well.

Just checked her out on FB and seen her all dressed up for her birthday night out (the day of the tan) with the most orange and patchiest tan ever! I took pleasure in looking at it.

Sometimes people are genuine but I just cannot stand people who tell fibs! xx

Some people just have no idea! No brains nothing. As if you would even tempt fate like that. I would be forever panicking thinking it would happen just because I used it as an excuse.
It's like a girl I used to work with said her Granddad does just so she didn't have to go to work for the day, only to find out few weeks later the grandad who had 'died' she was going round for a family dinner as it was somebody's birthday in her family! I was gobsmacked and she just said that I must be mistaken! Only I wast the only person that worked their and everybody knew what exercise she has used to get the day off!

Awful no conscience what so ever 😳

A girl I took on from a training place for basic work said her mum was dead, and she had to take a week off to sort out the funeral, she wasn't allowed back after as she didn't know I knew her mum and seen her on the street so had my mum check if she was alive/dead, turned out she was alive and I'd not seen a ghost. A month later she dropped down with a heart attack. Xoxo

That is disgusting. It would never ever occur to me to even attempt an excuse like that. Not that I have never cancelled unless I have had to or made a execute just told truth. Some people are ridiculous. It's sickening.

The thing that I don't get is... Obviously people don't actually want an appointment so why bother booking in the first place??

Lynne Baker

I think people really do want an appointment, but then realise that they can't afford it/can get it cheaper elsewhere/change their mind, and rather than just not show up they say the first thing that comes into their head that sounds the most compelling.
