Geeks,

I've now had 4 great and loyal clients complain about the above brand. We have spent lots of money on this gel polish, and clients have complained of brittle nails, and cracked nails after this has been removed.

Orly have not been very helpful, and blamed my therapist and her technique. I can assure you all she does it by the book, and this is no fault of her own. I have the rep out tomorrow and am tempted to pull the plug on this product!

Has anyone experienced the same problems? Do you have any advice??

We pride ourselves on quality products, and I'm very concerned about these complaints, especially as we are having to give FREE manicures to put things right and keep our clients!! Grrrrr

Please help!! Thanks xx

In my experience with this product I haven't had the problems you've been having.

Has your technician taken the GelFx course?
What are her steps of application and removal?

The other thing I would bear in mind is what was the clients nails like prior to application?
If the client has problems with their natural nails splitting/ breaking etc, then the GelFx wont change this. So once the product is removed the nails should be filed down to a length that suits the clients lifestyle and nail condition.

Also it is paramount that the client uses cuticle oil to nourish and moisturise the nail. This should also continue after the removal also (if the client has chosen not to have the GelFx applied).

Hi,

Thanks for your response. Yes she has had the training with Orly directly with this product, and has a very good technique. Maybe it is the state of the clients nails prior to application, I will ask her tomorrow.

I have to confess my bakground is Holistic's, so when it comes to nails I'm clueless....:D

Do you use this product yourself? X

I've found the condition of my clients nails has improved since changing to this product, I had trouble removing it on the free edge but once all nails are wrapped in foil I wrap the clients hands in a towel & place a heated wheat bag over their nails & now it comes off a dream here's a pic of nails after removal

Hi Hon,

I have only tried one colour in the Orly FX range as we use Gelish. Are you clients oiling their nails? this is vital to keep the from becoming brittle.

When you have a client with nails like these, you are always going to have good results with anything .. because the better the condition of the nails, the better they last. But sadly these nails are not typical of what comes through the door. Clients with nails in a less than healthy condition need to be told that they will have to work at it for a few weeks (approx 6-8) and not to expect perfection and until their nails have recovered.

Thanks guys! The rep came today, and actually she was very helpful. We had a few hours spare today, so we did each others nails to see what happens. I rarely get mine done as I'm a massage therapist! Had a few sets done in the past, and had no problems. I will have them done again next week, and keep it up for a while and monitor my nails carefully. Maybe our clients are not caring for their nails with cuticle oil? I might invest in some more affordable oils for my clients to buy. They feel the Orly oils are too expensive. Anyone know of a good brand I could buy in which isn't going to cost our clients too much money?

Thanks geeks xx

The obvious answer to that is Solar Oil. You can buy tiny bottles of it from Sweet Squared which would be more affordable. I have never used it but everyone on SG raves about it. Just do a search on SG for it and read all about it! :D

One of my clients nails were in an awful state when she first started coming to me, she'd been having gelish applied but the nail tech doing them was using IBD stick primer before the base coat & had been filing the product off. It's taken us 6 months to get her nails looking healthy now all the damage has grown out, she uses solar oil throughout the day too x

I like kaeso pomegranate cuticle oil. It's a great price, does a great job and doesn't contain almond oil (I can't stand the smell and I worry about nut allergies) and I can pick it up at my local wholesalers so no additional p&p.
