How long does a CRB check last?
There is no official length of time that a CRB check is valid for. Any information revealed on the CRB certificate is what the police, or the ISA if applicable, held at the time the certificate was printed.
Will you ever need to have another criminal record check?
Some jobs may require you to have another check if you remain in the same position. Your employer will be responsible for letting you know.
You might have to have another CRB check if you move to another job that asks for a CRB check.
If you have been asked to apply for a CRB check, and already have one from a previous role, you can ask if the organisation is willing to accept it.
When deciding if they will accept it, the organisation will consider:
the length of time since the check was issued
the level of check needed
the role the check was issued for
the role you are applying for
How to contact the Criminal Records Bureau
CRB helpline for all general enquiries:
0870 9090 811

8.00 am to 6.00 pm on weekdays
10.00 am to 5.00 pm on Saturday (closed Sunday and public holidays)

I have an enhanced CRB due to the nature of my work and we have to have it renewed every 3years, although checks can be made on us at anytime I believe.

I'm guessing this means I don't need another then as nothing has changed and I've not been asked for it. Thanks hun!cx

You need to renew every three years or if your job or circumstances change - whatever is earlier! Are you left alone with the children? If not you don't theoretical need one x

Yeah they don't actually run out Hun, but all companies have their own guidelines as to how often they need to be renewed. But if you're self employed and going in to people's homes I'd update every couple of years.xxx

This is why I believe CRB is not really worth the paper it's printed on. I'm an RNMH and had mine done when they first came out all those years ago and have never, ever been asked to go through an update process.

Your employer/organisation is the one that asks for the update, not CRB.

Yes hon you do have to pay as its basically a new check xx

I won't bother then. Was only to say to mummy's I've had a crb check, I have a few years ago so should be fine. I don't think I've commuted any crimes since?!
Thanks geeks xx
