Basically Im setting up in the beauty industry after passing my NVQ Level 2 and wondered from experience from anyone on here which insurance is best to go with, so far I have seen these two

Membership packages and insurance policies from BABTAC (http://www.babtac.com/membership-packages/)
Beauty Guild : Guild Membership Prices (http://www.beautyguild.com/membershipbenefits/membershipquote.asp)

Anyone got any views on these, or even if you have membership/insurance with these companies. Which in your opinion would be better? Is there any other insurances which may benefit me more?

Thanks

Definitely look around as there are a lot of companies that offer insurance at competitive prices. ABT can provide you with £6 million pound cover for £69.85, you can call 08450175090 for more information.
The most important thing is to find a policy that gives you the cover and support you need, especially when starting out. My advice is look at all the options and contact all the companies. Ask what their Public Liability cover limit is and if there is an excess. The most expensive is not always the best or right for you so shop around :-)

I've just qualified and went with Salon Gold after searching insurance on this site - it got good recommendations and was reasonable price too (£47 for the year)

You need to speak to a broker rather than going direct to the underwriters,as I'm pretty sure you're not entirely sure what you need?

We've got a couple of policies with a company called Insurance2day.co.uk

They're pretty helpful and well priced too.

I use justhair insurance (they insure beauty therapists, nail techs too) They gave me the cheapest quote I could get. Call 01923 894360 and ask for Gary or email garycrowder@acmbroking.com.

Hope this help.

I think beauty guild are really good, inc listing in your website, booklet every month/2months. Also option to be included in the voucher schemes.

Also look into any additional courses that you do to see who they are accredited with to then see who to obtain insurance with x

Hi @BeautyTamz2012,

Congratulations on passing your exams and welcome to the industry! Lovely to see that you are considering us for your insurance!

Sorry to interrupt the conversation, but we wanted to make a couple of additional points to the other really useful comments you have been given by everyone on here.

When considering your insurance, everyone is right that it shouldn’t be price driven, but should focus on level of cover. In addition to the lever of cover and excess as previously mentioned, you should also watch out for the small print as something we often hear from our new customers is how they got caught out with a previous company. Sit down and think about exactly what you want to offer – what type of people will you be treating, which treatments, do you want to be able to offer treatments to pregnant women for example, or will you be taking specialist courses? Once you have established this (which you probably already have in the business plan), then ask every insurance provider you speak to, what is excluded from the policy, before looking at what’s included. This will help make sure you don’t get caught out if something happens and you hadn’t planned for it! Price doesn’t always determine the level of cover at all but equally, sometimes (not always) other policies can leave you vulnerable.

Something else to consider is what else would be helpful to you for saving money and helping you run the business? Some of us offer both insurance and membership benefits included in the same price and these can help you save time and upskill. It is important to ask everyone that you approach what else is included in the price as industry magazines, product discounts, training discounts, promotional support etc., could really help you make the business a success and lower your overheads. Just a thought and something else you may find useful when choosing!

I hope this helps and we’d love to have you as a member if you feel we are right for you. Shop around and make sure you are comfortable about the deal before committing.

If you have any questions at all regarding our packages, don’t forget to call our membership team on 0845 250 7227 (option 1) and they’ll be happy to help.

Good luck now and in the future :p
