Evening geeks! Sorry or a long one
Had a client consultation yesterday she had coloured base 4 with lots of red in it ( looks like live xxl) her hair is very fine and also she is a serial straightner , and told me she has never used heat protecter! As you can imagin it feels awfull and very dry/ damaged . She would like very light brown highlights under her parting to lighten it up and then a tint to knock out red on the rest. So i explained to her I am quite worried about the condition but I will do some strand tests to see how it goes , I did bleach with 10vol on one ( left for and hour) and 20 vol on the other they both came up no higher than a 7 but extremely red/copper/pink . I did ash toner but its just not lifted enough ,but I daren't put 30vol any where near it as it was very stretchy , chewy, so gave her a ring and explained that I don't advise any bleaching at the mo let's do a cut and get you some good products and work on condition first, she was fine, disappointed as she wanted colour, have I done the right thing turning down colour service ?
Doubting my self at the mo :(

100% youve done the right thing here.

I wouldnt touch it without lots of reconstructor either.

I always go with my gut instinct and it sounds like yours is telling you not to go near it with colour so go with it.

Ive turned down many very well paid colour corrections and colour jobs. Its your reputation at the end of the day.

Once youve got the condition up to scratch and are ahppy to do it you will get a much better result and the client will respect you more for it than if you tried and it didnt work now.

Thanks for that I've only been on my own for 4 months so I am over thinking colour all the time! But just don't think it will cope with it, but that's what I'm worried about because she was a recommendation didn't want to ruin the good word.
Just needed a hairdresser to agree with me, someone other than my mum and my Boyf , lo

You did the right thing and perhaps after some treatments and a decent cut, you could maybe put a semi on just so that she feels as if she's having "something done", it will probably improve hair condition too :)
