Hi lovelies
I am a little bit confused. I had a spray tan on Thursday (LDN skins at Lena White HQ) so I know it was done properly as the lady had been tanning for ages. Anyway I hadn't prepped as I didn't know I was being tanned but hadn't moisturised since having my shower so know there was nothing on my skin. I washed off the guide after 8 hours and my legs hadn't taken very well at all. I was a little disappointed but put it down to not prepping. I took a closer look at my feet and I have a line where my feet have taken but not my legs and they weren't even sprayed directly! I'm now wondering if it could be hormonal? (I'm not pregnant far as I know lol)
Can anyone give me a clue as to why else this could be? x

Hi. Are your legs really white? I had a client a few months back who is ghostly white and sprayed just her legs as she was unsure of spray tans. The tan didn't take but she did say before I sprayed her that this always happens. I sprayed her again the next day and it worked out fine. It may be that you didn't prep or you could be like some, tans just don't take on your skin. Is this your first or have you had tans before. If so did they work out better. Maybe you need a higher %age:) x

I'm not sure why this might happen but I have a client who will only develop a perfect tan with White 2 Brown, all other tans come out patchy + not at all on her legs, it doesn't matter if she is sprayed or has put it on herself. Her prep is the same in all instances. Its weird.

had you shaved your legs the day before or the day of the tan?
Our razors have a moisturizing strip which can act as a barrier to the tan, the fact that you have a line where your feet have tanned but not your legs makes me wonder if this may be the cause.

Well I had the highest percentage which is a tone 4 (about 12%). Last time I had a tan was when I did my training and it took fine but I'd obviously prepped.
Hadn't done any hair removal for about a week as I wax.
I'm pale at the minute for me but both my parents are from the med so I have naturally olivy skin.
I'm stumped lol x

Which moisturizers do you use and what did you use to exfoliate with, both can contain ingredients that act as a barrier to your spray tan solution. If you think about it ex foliating products are designed to scrub your skin so it only makes sense for the manufacturers to include really nourishing ( usually oil based) moisturizing and soothing agents in. So sometimes when we try to use the best products we are actually using the worst ones for spray tanning preparation. Let us know as it could be interesting to find the cause which in turn will help other techs if they come across the same problems
I am a bit of an exfoliation freak. I exfoliate far too much - a bad habit I am trying to break. I find if I exfoliate my legs the day before I tan, they do not tan. This is because I exfoliate quite hard, and that mixed in with shaving my legs means that my legs are 'too smooth' and the tan finds it hard to stick. I am fine every where else, but I now know to exfoliate my legs at least 2 days before the tan and it works out fine.
I don't suffer with it anywhere apart from my knee to my anckle, because thats where I exfoliate most harshly with them exfoliating mitts.
Maybe a similar problem with you?

I think you may be into something. I use one of those exfoliating puffs in the shower near enough every day lol. Just got some colour on my legs from the lovely sun today ;) x
