Hi ladies is this possible?
My client has had her extensions in for about two weeks but said they are very itchy and her scalp is red:(
What should I do can I offer her another method of extensions or will all extensions now cause the same reaction for her?
Thanks for any advice x

I've been doing extensions for years never experienced an allergic reaction but they do feel uncomfortable to sleep on and can feel itchy until they've settled in, have you left at least a 1cm gap between the bond and the hair? Did you use triangular sections?

Just read the scalp is red it sounds like they're in too tight or not enough hair attached to hold the bond and is pulling?

Hi :)
i trained with Balmain who informed us that Keratin was a natural product, made of the same stuff your finger nails are made of.. if she was allergic to the keratin, she would be allergic to her own finger nails?
you have a couple of options, you could try fitting Micro loop extensions (if your trained in this method)
you could try contacting the company you purchased the extensions from to make sure that the bonds are 100% keratin, and that there is no Latex involved in the production.
or you can take out the hair and re-fit them a little looser, dropping down a little more from the scalp to make sure they are not too tight/or pulling on her hair in a awkward way, as if there is too much tension on the hair this can causing itching, and too much itching will cause the scalp to be red.
I would arrange to check it out, get her to come to you (or if your mobile arrange a time you can pop in for 10 minutes) to just take a look and make sure her scalp is actually red, and it is as she says it is, because she could possibly be looking to pull a fast one.
also check she is following after care, have you asked her if she has washed them yet? i know this may sound very dumb but not washing your hair can irritate your scalp etc, if she has not washed the extensions since having them fitted you could tell her to give them a good wash, using the correct products, and see if that takes itching away.
she could also have head lice? this is another problem that can cause itching and a red scalp.
definitely arrange for her to pop in or you go see her and check it all out for your self

itching is normal after the 1st week for alot of women, the red bumps could be from her scratching and irritating her scalp, BUT check your section sizes and make sure they arnt too close to the head as too small a section and too close can also cause this as can not washing properly or enough
if it dosent go after a few days and assessing her aftercare i would remove them

Thanks ladies for the help. I did think that it would be strange to have a reaction to something we have on our bodies but the keratin in these extensions could have latex in them as they are very different to work with ie. melting temp and they are hot to work with in comparision with italian keratin.
I am going to meet up and have a look at them they are in longer than a week so really they should of settled by now. I was going to offer to remove them and make them into i-tips and apply them with shrinkies then for free?
Do you think this is fair or should I remove them and refund her money? I dont think she is pulling a fast one at all as she is a very nice girl and she is also related to me.
I will check the sections etc but I dont think I have put them in too tight to the scalp as I placed them the same way that I did with all the other girls. I feel so bad for her :(

Do all of the stuff you have mentioned, you can't go wrong. If I was you I wouldn't jump in and tell her your removing them etc, I would ask we what she wants...
From experience I have found extensions are not for everyone, some woman won't bat an eye lid at the fact they are a little uncomfortable for the first few days, where as some woman just can't settle with them and handle the odd feeling of something on their hair. If she really want them she will sort of have to learn how to cope with it. So if you check her over and see that there are no mistakes on your behalf, then ask her what she wants. Explain that they are not for everyone. It's like a hair colour. Some woman suit red and some just can't get on with it.
If she really wants them and knows the balls in her court she will beggin to learn how to cope with them... Good luck x

Itching is defo normal, some people get tension spots, I've not come across them with my clients, but have had them myself, the extensions were definately to tight. I always get an itchy scalp no matter who's fitted them, and whichever extensions I have.
I have however had a client who reacted to the aftercare shampoo, unfortunately she stopped using it and bought a well know brand off eBay that wrecked her extensions instead! There's another option to think about! What aftercare is she using?

hi there!
It could well be they are a little tight. has the problem only just developed? have a look at them and make a judgement call from there. it could also be poor rinsing of shampoo, or that she is pulling them tightly into a high ponytail every day (i had an air hostess client with this with having to wear a high tight bun all day every day) sometimes around week 2-3 you can get a little itchy with hair loosening from the scalp and not being able to shed and the bond is still pretty high, making it a bit jaggy iykwim?! if the scalp is bumpy and sore looking i would re position/remove depending on what was wrong xx

Okay so there seems to be a good few reasons why this could be happening I will keep it all in mind when I have a look myself. She does acyually wear it tied up alot so that maybe part of it.
Thanks for the help ladies I really appreciate you advice x

itching usually starts after the 1st week and lasts a few days as your scalp settles if its severe and dosent go away after a few days have your extensionist look at them as it can also be a sign of traction ( dont let that alarm you it is normal for some itching after the 1st week)
