I got intimate waxing done today with hot wax and it was agony. I had it done for a friend doing an assessment at college before and it was fine but today was horrendous! I had to tell her to stop and then suggested she use strip wax instead. It was much easier once she did. I don't do hot wax but everyone says it's not so sore. Am I abnormal?! Lol! X

Ouch! Did they put oil under the wax?

What wax was she using? If shes using the old type where you have to build up the layers and in a figure of eight then I am not surprised it was sore. Did she put any pre wax oil on before she applied the wax? poor you though, is it all ok now?

I think she put oil on. I asked which wax they used and she said she wasn't sure but they get it from capital. It took a long time to dry before she could pull it. It took about an hour to get the whole lot done. Didn't realise it would take so long. I've booked in again but with strips as there is no way I could go through that again. Yes it's fine now, I'm not bruised or anything. X

Hot wax doesn't hurt half as much as strip wax, but everyone's different x

Sounds like it was a cheap wax. A Brazilian should take 20 mins on average.

Thanks so much for the replies guys. I was thinking about doing intimate waxing training next year and it had put me off a bit. I'm booked in again in 3 weeks but I'm not sure. Is it normal to still have some hairs? I had to veet underneath this morning. Even my very first bikini wax at college wasn't so bad as the hot wax.
You shouldn't have hairs left underneath no and it shouldn't have been more painful than strip wax, if it was a good quality wax, which I'm not sure you can buy at capital.

I want to train in intimate waxing soon and I'm really not looking forward to having it done.
I hope there are specific ways to make it as comfortable as possible in the circumstances!
Laura - there is :) Firstly you take a couple of paracetamol half an hour before :) It just takes the sting out...
You use a GOOD wax - none of that cheap rubbish! I will only use PR and Berins for intimate waxes - they may cost more but pretty much everyone I've had through my doors so far have been pleasantly surprised at the experience - newbies all say it's not as bad as they expected and experienced peeps say it's not as bad as they remember lol
I can't help wonder if the OP's waxer was trained in intimate waxing? Don't get me wrong I have recommended before now to first time clients to adjust in stages... Especially if they are about to head off on holiday and will be in a foreign pool... Then I recommend we take anything visual off but don't go inside the labia, I'm paranoid about the possibility of infections because people sweat, the pool might not be as clean as it should and it's a more moist part anyway... so far my clients have all agreed and then returned to have "the lot" off the next time :) The OPs waxer however doesn't sound like she left hairs after consultation, but missed them??? Yes some very short hairs will pop through quicker than normal but that is the same as any waxing if it's the first time :) Hair growth cycles and all that :)

Not one single hair should be left at all.
@Tinxy I always wax clients just before they go on holiday and I've never had one get in infection. After all a holiday is one of the times that a client does want every hair removed.

She said there was still hairs because she couldn't go over the area again but to shave them when I got home. I used veet instead because there was no way I was taking a razor down there! All in all it wasn't worth the pain and hassle. Couldn't put myself through that again. Think I'll stick with the strip wax.

Hi Geeks,
This is always a problem I have had when I have been waxed myself. Alawys painful, very irritated skin, with hairs left behind. It's like "what was the point of me paying you to wax me?"
In my opinion, there shouldn't be any hairs left when paying for a wax and if there will be, the therapist should probably advice that the hair is not quite long enough and have the client return in a week or so (for example).
I think it really comes down to the skill/experience of the waxer and yes, using a quality wax. I originally got my wax through Capitol and hate it. I thought I was happy with it until I started using it and I am having those types of problems: Hairs left over, doesn't come off too well and yes, the hard wax is the worst to use. I am about to train with the PR wax and am so excited! I have never liked the hard wax but honestly, thinking of the wax brands I have used in the past and the one I got at Capitol, they have always been more of a cheaper one.
One of my fears is giving the client a painful experience and then leaving so many hairs that they have to shave. There's no way that person will return! I am just trying to get as much practice in and watching the Kim Lawless videos etc.
Practice makes perfect!

I'm thinking now she just lacked experience. The hairs had to be trimmed so not too long. I really want to give her another chance as it does take time but I just don't think I can go through it again :(

It sounds like a combination of a lack of experience and a cheap wax! Maybe even just a lack of experience. Even with the best wax available, if someone doesn't have good technique then forget about it! I would question her as she advised you to shave, that is the worst possible advice! And she said to do that as she couldn't go over it again? How many times did she go over it? No wonder you were feeling raw!

She went over it twice. I wanted to give her another chance but I just can't put myself through that again :( why oh why can't I find a salon that does everything up to my standards! Lol! Honestly there are about 10 near me and I find fault with them all. Maybe it's my problem?! Lol! That one was actually in the next town 20 mins away. Time before I went for a Micro derma facial and that was really poor too. Whole treatment took 20 mins and I had to listen to radio one! X

And with most yes :) But people who have never had it all off before or had to care for an intimate wax I do discuss with them the implications. For some that means I recommend not going inside the lips on the first visit if they are about to jet off - if they wanted it all off then I'd take it all off :)
It's ultimately always the clients decision what they want and I always respect that :)

I certainly would not have veeted so soon after a wax - that could have caused all sorts of problems but glad from your later post you're OK.

I have no idea where Fraserburgh is but are you anywhere near Lolly22? She'll wax you very well - trained by Kim and uses good wax.

I'm sorry to disagree Tinxy but we are offering an intimate waxing service, anything less than all off underneath is a glorified bikini wax. In all my years in medicine I have never heard of anyone getting an infection from holiday pool water in their fou-fou!! You are more likely to get an ear infection than anything else. If I went for my pre-holiday wax and someone tried to tell me that having it all off could result in an infection I'd get my coat and go elsewhere, this scaremongering is just not necessary and could put people off completely. As has already been said holiday is a time when you want it all off.
Anyway, we digress, don't let it put you off trying again BeautyGirl- Kim will tell you what I was like when I was waxed by a trainee but now I barely even flinch because I go to someone with buckets of experience.

Im from NY and here we a told never to go over a surface twice with hot wax and NEVER recommend shaving after a wax.. potential for hair follicle to get infected .. not a good idea....
