I have been doing gels since February and am fed up.

I did a client on Monday for a set of Gel enhancements with a natural tip. My gel was very very runny and i had a few problems with it running (this was due to the weather) but the finished result was nice. The client was extremely happy.

I had a call from her the next day to say that one of her index nails had popped off and her thumb had ridges and bumps on it.

I am going back on my day off to have a look and fix them for her and I won't charge as it's my error by the sounds of it but just I'm just fed up.

My routine is as follows:-

Cuticle Eraser to remove cuticle
Wipe with cleanse
Lightly buff nail plate
Dehydrate with Nail Pure Plus or Scrub Fresh
Apply Nail tip and blend
Clean with Plush Brush and dehydrate again.
Apply primer
Apply thin layer of builder gel and cure for 90 secs
Apply thicker layer of builder gel and cure for 2 mins ( i generally apply gel in two sections on each nail and freeze for 10 secs in between to stop gel moving)
Refine shape of nail by filing
Remove dust with plush brush and apply Cleanse.
Apply glaze n go and cure for 2 mins.
Apply cuticle oil. Done xxx

I won't give up until I get this right as its just not my nature but its so disheartening. I was really proud when i left as the nails looked lovely and the client was so pleased with them. Does anyone have any suggestions? Maybe they were a little too long for her but they shouldn't just pop off should they?

1- when using cuticle eraser you need to make sure all traces of it are gone before moving on to the gel. Really scrub with scrub fresh, don't just wipe

2- after you buff you'll need to clean all dust not just dehydrate. so again you'll need to scrub with scrub fresh

3- after you've blended the tip, you'll need to clean again with scrub fresh before moving on to primer

it sounds like you may have some issues with lifting/poping of due to some contaminants still being on the nail bed. after making sure they're all really clean and dry you should find they last a lot better :)

good luck, and don't give up just yet!

NO!

Don't use scrubfresh on the tip:confused: The acetone will effect the tips and they will crack and behave funny. You can use IPA or alcohol to scrub after applying tips:)

Are you absolutely sure you are prepping perfectly? You need to remove all cuticle and dirt from the whole nail, including down in the lateral folds and eponychium.

you're right, my mistake...I did mean to type IPA for that point.

Are you using an orange stick to make sure there is no gel on the skin?

Are you capping the edges after each application?

Are you building the apex?

Are you waiting for the cleanse to dry before moving on, and especially before adding primer?

Could you be putting too much primer on?

Is your primer dry before applying gel? or a primer you need to put under the uv lamp?

Apart from that, the only other thing, is to just make sure the client is not having the nails too long. Some clients can't wear them really long. I always advise to keep them shorter!
