The boys have Movember. Every year, boys take the moustache challenge on and walk around adorned in retro tash-style facial hair safe in the knowledge that people know they are doing it for charity (most of them). Now, Armpits 4 August is asking girls to get all Julia Roberts on their beauty routines and stop shaving their underarms for a month to raise money for Polycistic Ovarian Syndrome charity Verity.

I have to admit that the idea of not shaving or waxing my armpits during the summer after nearly twenty years of doing it religiously is more than a little daunting but, if you're doing it in the name of charity, I guess that's the point.

If this takes off, you may see underarm waxing appointments drop a little but perhaps raising awareness for Polycistic Ovarian Syndrome and the charity Verity, and perhaps even letting go of our obsessive need to be hair free, if only for a month is worth it.

Until then...geek on!

I never understood how stopping your grooming will help a charity! Donate money or throw a fun event but to grow your armpit hair? I don't understand this and would never do it!

Its like them facebook pages, this person needs 1000 likes to get an operation! What the? Just help where you can, donate or volunteer and your doing your part!

my husband, father, and brother all do Movember every year. The point? To get a ton of media coverage and your charity out there. Letting people who may not have heard about the charity know what it's about and how to help. It gets people in the spirit to get out there and tackle hard issues in a light harted eay going way.

If I knew of a local charity doing the armpits 4 august campaign I'd sign up for sure, and would be urging all the ladies I know to do the same. the more people we can ignite to help the better for everyone!

I hope they do well and will definintely be looking into it for my area!
