HI all,

So as some of you know I am a mobile therapist. Been taking it real slow because of my pregnancy so not had a lot of clients in the past month or so. A friend recommended a workmate come to me for nails so said person called me.

She wanted the old acrylics removed, and new acrylics put on. I quoted her a price (bearing in mind it was to be on the Sunday and I had to go to her place of work outside my local area) and she then said no, she didn't want it as she knew somewhere she could get it done for £20.

£20???!! I'm in Glasgow, does ANYBODY in Glasgow charge £20 for a remove and redo? I certainly wouldn't! And I've just recently adjusted my mobile prices to match all my local salons as I refuse to do it cheaper. It takes more time to go to someone's home for a treatment. I was perfectly polite and apologised that I wouldn't be able to help her ( I think she was expecting me to haggle but I thought NO WAY) but I can't get over it. £20 for that? I seriously think she was at it.

Anyone have any thoughts or experience? I still can't get over it lol.

Unfortunately you do get people that are cheeky and expect something for nothing...what you have to ask yourself is 'is that the sort of client I want?' and the answer is no.

You want loyal clients who aren't after the next deal and who respect you and your work as a nail tech, who know that your interest is doing the best for them and getting to know their nails, you will find them, but unfortunately you will have to put up with some cheeky blighters along the way. Definitely don't undersell yourself as you're mobile...you have overheads too. xx

Good on you for refusing to budge on price,i would have done the same and would have been gobsmacked.
You only want the clients that value you and are not just after the cheapest price :)

Has anyone noticed its always 'a friend of a friend'? Why? Because your true friends now how good your work is, they appreciate it and they pay what you blooming well ask them! However I honestly wonder how these acquaintances have the sheer cheek to ask! And good on you for standing your ground Hun as you should

My thoughts exactly! I mean I don't do removals often, most people pick them off (grr) or come in with half of them on after 6 weeks (lol) but I'd still charge for my time there. And if they were MMA extensions lord knows how long it would take as I have heard that they are a nightmare to get off....

But anyway. You'd be talking £20 for 2 hours work, plus travel, plus product? I would be basically doing it for free so I thought naw, forget that! It's just disappointing when I don't have many clients right now!

Haha yes that's true, none of my friends would ask me for it cheaper or for a discount. The only person who gets a wee nail treat for free is my mum and that is because she helped me financially to get my products and equipment together. And yknow, she's my mum. Just my principal :)

You did the right thing! Mobile work is hard at the best of times you don't need clients who want treatments for nothing -if they realised what goes into it packing your stuff, travelling there using fuel, setting up, taking the time to do the work, then all the way back again it really isn't worth the money and I'm sure they wouldn't do it either! It's less than minimum wage when you take into account product costs and fuel what do they expect. Let her go to this salon that charges ridiculous prices!

Nothing new their! Always somebody saying they can get it cheaper elsewhere to try to get you to lower the price! Terrible. i actually have to charge a lot less than the salons just to get some new customers through the door and i get the same treatment. £25 i charge for shellac fingers and toes and the cheapest local salon charges £50 for the same treatment and i STILL get people trying to lower me. Tbh im getting pretty fed up. Its a nightmare to try and start up in a new area being mobile and when the customers actually do get in touch they are haggling with prices :( xx
