Hi...

Was just hoping for a bit of advice really..

I'm due to finish my level 2 beginning of september but on the 7th I'm going to be out of a job as the current salon I'm an apprentice in is chair rental and there isn't any room for me and due to me being 21 they can't keep me on while I do my level 3 as my wage is due to go up...

I'm just really stuck now as to what route to go down... I'd love to get into a big salon such as a nicky clarke or toni & guy etc. only thing is from the few I've spoken to just want kids straight out of school as apprentices or will only employ stylists with level 3... Another option is getting in a local salon but would that mean me sat around most days with nothing to do as would have to wait to build up clients?
Orrrrr.... getting in as a level 3 apprentice but would that mean me staying on a £2.50ph wage and junioring for another year or so or would I be taken on as a junior stylist and have clients in and be on min wage?
And then there's always going mobile or chair rental however I think for the next year or so I'd be better gaining more experience from being in a salon where I can get more advice and/or training...
Ideally I'd like to stay part time like I am now in whichever route I go for as then I've still got time free to carry on doing clients outside of work.

Any advice would be appreciated from own experiences etc.. And of course if anyone knows of any jobs going that are local to me let me know ;) haha

Thanks xx

If you want to carry on part time and doing clients out of the salon it sounds like youd need to be registered self-employed . Could you rent a chair for a few days and put yourself through your level 3?
I dont really know what the situation is now , but when I trained 18 odd years ago , I did an additional 2 year apprenticeship when id finished my level 2 , I guess that brought me up to a level 3 , which I dont think was around much then , but it was a hard extra 2 years , doing clients cleaning and still on minimum wage! ,but im glad I did it .
