Hi everyone

I've recently completed my spray tan training and have only sprayed 3 people so far. The first one went great but the send and 3rd came out speckled in places especially on the face. I held my gun 8 inches from client and had gun on correct setting. If I had it any different setting wise it would sometimes just spray air no tan :-( any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Sounds like your gun needs cleaning, which one do you use. Try at first to just spray some cleaner diluted with water through and if it still plays up you will have to take it apart and give it a good clean, keep us posted

I use the hvlp 700. I did what it said with regards to cleaning it but it says you can't take the needle out, is this true? After the first tan I ran hot water through it and then the hot air function to dry it out so I don't know if it could be cleaning. I'd only used it once before.

Thanks

Wow, freckly....

Don't get disheartened we all have problems sometimes. I would speak to the people you bought the gun from. They will advise you on cleaning. Water is unfortnately not enough, aloe vera is an oily gel based liquid which is in almost all spray tan solutions so you need to clean it with something a bit better than water. I use window cleaner diluted with water, it cuts right through the greasy oiliness which can clog up your needle. You can buy proper cleaning agents and I would recommend that you use these on a regular basis rather than a homemade solution all the time. As a little trial though give it a little go with some window cleaner or even methylated spirits. Then give it a really good rinse and spray through at least a full cup of water afterwards. Then see if it still splatters, test it on some couch roll or on the tiles in your shower if they are white, hope you get sorted, hopefully Baggybear, Collin or Steve@Nouvatan will be on later, they know a lot about guns, unfortunately I dont use the HVLP700, I have the 5008 so I dont think mine is as sophisticated as yours

By the way why did you spray the palms of her hands? or was it just the spatters overspraying where it shouldn't?

Check your solution as well hun it could be you have a dodgy bottle. I know I've had that in the past sometimes there is some very fine bits in the solution and it doesn't come through correctly.

I used 2 different solutions on the girls I did last night as I haven't decided what tan to stock yet. One was sienna and one was suntana cherry. The pic above is the cherry. Thanks xx

Definitely looks like your gun needs a good clean, take it apart, try again on kitchen towel. Have you checked the gland nut? Is there any solution leaking from that area?

put clear warm water in your cup and pull that through your gun on to some couch roll if that comes through okay try a bit of each solution on to couch roll. If one was fine and other not I think it could be your solution that is contaminated

i also tried suntana cherry last night and wasnt impressed with it. Didnt think the formula was very nice so it might bea mixture of a dirty gun and IMO not a great solution.... Did the Sienna x solution do it too?

Yes but not as bad... The cherry one was worse but came out fine on her face and body. I'm thinking it might be me doing something wrong.http://img.tapatalk.com/5ad4ddfb-a57b-8c05.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/5ad4ddfb-a594-b244.jpg
These 2 pics are the suntana cherry after was off
The bottom 2 are the sienna after was off and only problem area is hands

It might be angle your holding gun if mainly effecting hands. Arms looked good. My hvlp 700 spat too when I first used it I now fill it full. But It did take some adjustments to get spray coming out fine mist. It does still sometimes spray and stop but a clean usually fixes it.

Did you have enough solution in your cup? The pick up tube doesn't reach the bottom of the cup so you need to make sure you put more solution in the cup then you will use. If not it will suck up air and cause splattering. Personally I fill to 100ml but typically only use 45ml. HTH

At first I thought it was that so u put more solution in and it still seems to of done it. I used about 110mls of tan too which is way too much isn't it? X

Does look like you have a clogged gun. Best to clean out as already described, really open the gun up so you have a lot of water pushing through. You should be able to strip the gun right down for cleaning. Make sure you always pour unused solution from the gun pot back into your solution bottle at the end of each day. It doesn't do it any good sitting around in a gun pot. Good luck with the cleaning!

Personally if you are having problems with your gun and you are using so much solution I would go back to your training provider for further assistance. You pay good money to get trained and they should be there to provide ongoing support.

It is probably just that your gun needs a good clean. Make sure your pick up tube is on the right hole and is fully pushed on too as that might be the reason. Even if you get it sorted I still think you should speak to your trainers for some advise. Really hope you get it sorted, and once it is practice makes perfect x

mmm i dont think your gun needs cleaning necessarily as you've only done the three tans now and two were fine...also it doesn't sound like a solution problem either
If you are experiencing intermittent spraying pattern theres something wrong with the gun...ist possibly sticking or the pick up hose seal isn't tight or effective so air is getting into the system and disrupting the pressure

The gun needs stripping down, cleaning, lubricating and all seals on pick up hose etc checked

If you have only just been trained and assuming you purchased the machine from the company you did training with then i would certainly suggest you get on to them and get a replacement gun sent out to you

If you get no joy or just want someone to talk you through in real time as to how to strip down just pm me and i will give you my direct number

Dont get disheartened as I'm sure you are currently...these things happen and can be fixed

yes however this is normal with anewbie and will get better through the passing of time and usage so dont worry at this stage

Just focu on getting the gun sorted then focus on reducing the amount of solution you use :wink2:
