Hello I am currently taking on a qualified beauty professional 6 hours a week. I have looked at the hmrc regulations but couldn't find any info on insurance. Would she need her own or would I be able to add her to mine? Also am I right in think as she will be earning under 130 pounds a week that I don't have to go down the PAYE route?

my unqualified view would be
HMRC are not interested in the insurance side, they are there for tax, NI etc.
Regardless of the hours worked/rate of pay HMRC still need to be aware that you are employing staff. [Its worth registering as an employee anyway. It doesnt cost to register and you will be kept up to date with info]. I actually find HRMC to be very approachable and helpful. may be just me tho.
If you employ them, then I think you need to be the one with insurance. The clients would probably sue you, the salon not the staff member direct. In any case i think you have a legal obligation to provide liability insurance, what if your staff member gets injured working?
Assuming your insured at present, speak toyou insurance company and ask what you need.
Hope that helps?

Ok I will speak to hmrc to register. If they can give extra info then that's an added bonus. I'll speak to my current insurer also. Thankyou for your advice
