View Full Version : Charging for removal and not feeling bad about it!

I really don't know what's wrong with me at the moment. I can say to others quite easily about charging what you are worth etc, but for some reason I feel bad about accepting money for an appointment that is just a removal of gel polish.

I don't charge when it is reapplied at the same appointment, but reapplication won't be for another two or three weeks, so that is why this is purely removal.

I actually feel embarrassed that I have this set at £8 (including shape and CND moisture pack). Even typing this now, I can see how ridiculous it sounds to feel bad about it and I need to just put my business head on and get on with it.

Not many local places have websites for me to see what the general consensus is on pricing this up, so I got my pricing from threads on here.

So, am I charging too much, or am I just too soft? :smack:

I charge £5 for acetone only when a new set is applied that day (or perhaps within a day or two if there's a reason) but not three weeks! Thats nearly a month so I would consider it a separate treatment. At the end of the day removal takes up quite a bit of time - in some cases the same as doing a set in the first place so I charge £14 for removal only and £20 with a mini manicure and polish

(I'm near Liverpool)

I charge £10 for a removal incuding a file and application of strenthener or clear and oil or £15 including a file and polish (french/colour) and oil.. I dont feel bad about charging it as i am using acetone, foil, pads, polish, oil and most importantly my time, i still have to book out 30mins!! I dont think clients expect it for free.. So dont worry about it :)

I would go with what Cat does above and "beef" up your removal service with the addition of a French, oil, shape etc :)

Dont feel bad honey its your time. With regards to billing it in with your reapplication i word on my website removal is complimentary when another treatment is booked or youre reshellaced. I had a regular client tonight who booked in for reshellac but decided when i got there she just wanted a removal this time- i charged her a tenner for removal, quick tidy and solar buff and she bought a mini solar oil- i dont feel bad at all.

Dont feel bad...Nobody works for free....

Acetone is not free, pads are not free, foil is not free and most importantly your time is not free.

I know alot of techs and i dont know anybody who does a removal for free. Like everybody says " charge what your worth" . That is time you arent seeing another client so charge accordingly, and guilt free :)

Thank you all.

I think I just needed to see it from other people and you are all right, none of that is free and neither am I.

I do beef it out, like I said in my original post, I shape and do the moisture pack. I wont add polish though, as I would then feel too cheap charging only £8.00 (I'm never happy am I?!).
I may add an application of hand cream with a massage though.

Business head is firmly back on.

I feel like this to, I've become good friends with one lady I do and thought I'll reduce price but I don't do many as it is so have to be firm, I also charge £5.00 for removal which normally they have a new set put on but as I'm newish to nails it's taking an hour to get them off and do cuticle work on nails ect as do it as careful as possible not to scratch nails. I could charge this in the price of a full set of bio sculptures but not everyone has them taken off and new set on x

Wow, I'm really expensive compared to you guys but I still don't feel bad  I charge £15 for a removal and mini manicure or £10 just for removal and quick file/application of solar oil.

Mustn't be too bad though as I have had a few clients come back to have them removed by me and pay that. Don't feel bad, products and time need to be paid for :wink2: Get tough Mrs! :D

I can't believe I was ready to reduce the price before anyone had even said it was too expensive! I do need to toughen up don't I?! :D

I've spent and continue to spend a huge amount of money on all of this, yet in my heart I just want to share the love and bring everyone in for next to nothing! See? Ridiculous!

Lila, I charge one price for application and within that removal costs are taken into consideration whether they have it or not.
It's the appointments that are removal only that I charge for if that makes sense.

You need to have your business head on! So I hope it is firm.

One easy way to 'get out ' of discussing price, if it embarrasses you or for some crazy reason makes you feel 'bad', is to put a glass top on your desk and shove a price list under it and clearly under their nose! Your price for what you are doing is just plain nuts and is not worthy of a CND technician ! Or CND products and services. Come on and get real!

Hi,

Dont feel bad for charging for your removals. If the customer didnt want to pay for the removal they would try and do it themselves (I've had plenty of clients who've gone out on their own steam and bought some acetone and tried to do their own removal - most of whom have made a right dogs dinner of it!!).

Personally I charge £10 for removal only (prior to a new full set) or £18 for removal and mini mani. I do like to look after my regulars though so for them I do the removal prior to a new set for free, but I dont advertise that fact, I wait until they are paying and then I mention that I'll include the removal for free.

We never do for free, but we have a special lower price for Soak 'n Set as opposed to just a soak off. Clearly on our price list.

Well my lovely Geeks, I have performed the removal appointment and I totally forgot that I felt bad about this last night. In fact, it was only seeing that my thread was still going that reminded me.

It felt right and I am very happy with the service that I provided. Thanks for letting me 'talk it over.'

I charge as well for removal,£5 for soak and buff with solar oil and £10 for acrylic/gel extensions. This service is not making a profit, but I prefer to do it and clients not to bite off their nails.I charge £10 for gel polish done in NSS caue it's a pain to remove and it takes 1hour!Shellac,Gelish,Gelleration and these branded ones only take 15min so £5 is fine for me:rolleyes:
