i love my career, and i adore the hair industry so much, but other hairdressers seem to be dis-heartening me lately, making me feel like the industry is going down the loo!
i contacted a local mobile stylist today
i usually colour my hair myself but i want to change my colour now, feeling something new and also looking into extensions.
i came across her Ad in the paper, so contacted
she told me she would come take a look, but said it would roughly be around £300, for colour & extensions.
i thought it was too cheap but then thought that could be her start price, once shes seen my hair it will probs increase etc.
i asked her if she will be skin testing etc,
her reply was
NO NO NO thats only for salons darling, mobile dont have to waste time skin testing
so i decided to ask.. could you send me any pics of previous extension work, or do you have a website etc
she said she had no site or fb page and would send me some pics through sms.
no problem
till i recieved this picture...
Im totally loosing all will power at the moment, im getting sick of coming across this type of thing so much
not just the fact that alot of hair stylists dont skin test, the fact that they just have no respect for the industry, just disregarding everything there were taught about h&s etc.
why do people put their selves through 2 maybe 3 years of training to just 'forget' everything and play by their own rules
how has this not been stopped yet?

Lol even my husband just looked at that pic & was like omg! Lol.
I am mobile & would never ever dream of doing a colour without skin testing & strand testing first. With every new client I always say this.
I would be so scared thinking I would be colouring someone's hair & they could have a reaction.
& regarding extensions that's just another story!! Lol
ummm yeah...those extensions ....well...they are something arent they. Dont be disheartened hun...you dodged a bullet there. Once you find a good hairdresser you wont look back....They are out there.
Sorry you feel that way, most of us do skin test, I'm mobile and do free skin tests and a full consultation at which I take 50% deposit on colours, I also skin test every time, be it your first time seeing me or your 100th as anything can change and cause you to react. I also do strand tests when I'm wary on the hair. So please dont feel disheartened.
I don't do extensions myself, but can see from the picture them are a no go area. By the finish of them I guess she's not a trained hairdresser and is just doing hair as an added extra, too many extensionists think they can do all hair services after their extension course's.
Take a look through Facebook for someone with pictures that are obviously taken by the person ask people who have commented what the hair is like now a how well it lasts, what they thought of it etc and only go with someone you trust xoxo
Oooops here's the pic
Wow. They are something :/

I skin test everytime too. My sister has her roots done every 4/5weeks and even she's skin tested everytime. I've had a client have a reaction to a skin test before, I think that's why I've started to notice other hairdressers missing out little bits of health and safety. I honestly wish there was something us honest and by the book hairdressers could do!
I spoke to a company a few days ago about finance and loans to start up mobile and once I mentioned hairdressing they out right refused me. Because they've have fakes and phoneys in the past, have a loan of them, end up getting sued. And declaring bankruptcy :winds me up!
Just thought i would mention, if it was of any interest...i know alot of hairdressers and have been to alot over the three states i have lived in over my life.
I have never ever had a skin test. No one i know has ever had one and none of the hairdressers i know do them. Kind of got a blank look when i asked a hairdresser friend about them today.
Seems that this is not common practice in Australia, but judging by that pic of the reaction to the product, it definitley should be!
What on earth would they do if that happened to someones whole head :Scared:

That's bad, I'd rather lose a client and know I done the right thing, knowing Australia's h&s I'd have thought they would be very strict on this kind of thing. If I were you id demand a skin test, ask for a dab of the darkest colour they have behind the ear and leave on 48 hours. Do it every time as anything can later in your body and cause a reaction, your lady times can cause hormonal changes that cause reactions, medication, stress and anxiety, or your body has just changed. Not everything has telltale signs your body has changed so doing te test is important. If they really want your custom that much they will please you by doing the test to get you back 2 days later for the colour.
The only time it's not done is for bleach and cap highlights, I still do it for foil highlights as the chemicals do usually touch the scalp when rinsing and even that short time when the colour is diluted could cause a reaction.
Hope that helps you out and starts a chain reaction trough your friends as then through all of Australia that skin tests are a basic necessity with chemical process's where there's a chance the chemical may touch the skin and scalp xoxo
