Hi geeks!

In need of some inspiration! I'm wanting to set up my own business (have been doing a little mobile for friends and family) but I hate it, I'm only young and I'm not keen on going into people's houses. So I'm trying to think of other things...

Iv tried log cabin (gardens not big enough)
Home salon (no spare rooms)
Rent a room (none in my area but 1 that they wanted occupied full time, which I cant do along with my part time job)

And now I'm a little out of ideas really!! :-( I can't think of any other way, and I keep searching for rooms to rent, but none so far!

Any ideas on what I could do?
How did you start out in business?

Thank you xx

Hiya, I started off mobile for a bit, then was waiting to pick my mum up and saw a run down little hut next to the train station, found out that it belonged to the station and used to be a cab office, it was very small and run down, but that ment that I could get a good deal on the rent.
I'm not on the high street, but get a lot of foot traffic from the station,
I only open part time, mainly just for appointments, its really taken off and I still do a few mobile appointments if it suits me, Its worth.thinking out side the box with premises if you wanted to rent some where.

Good luck x

I won't be much help as I'm setting up my own beauty home business but I guess you could make posters and put them up in shops, saying LOOKING TO RENT A ROOM etc or even advertise in your local paper for this. I'm sure you'll get someone ringing you. You could email all the salons, see if you can come to some sort of agreement with renting one of their rooms :D

Good luck! I'm sure everything will work out!

Thanks geekling, its small, but a bit bigger than if i was renting a room. It means low over heads and opening when I want to.
I couldn't have afforded to open a big salon, my little hut it perfect for my needs.

Have a look around your area just off the main high road and see what you can find. Everything is possible.

I can't upload any pictures, not sure why, but my hut was so run down that it had just blened into the back ground, I had walked past it a thousand times before I noticed it. Haha.

Good luck with your search and i hope it all works out for you x

Not long now, only a few months really, but I have been dreaming of doing something like this for a long time!! I don't want to be employed as I already have another (non-beauty) job, I'm going back to college September but I'm unsure if massage etc will be for me! Or if I would rather chuck myself in at the deep end and use my 2 days off to get business started...if I could find somewhere that is!! Lol!

I phoned a few local hairdressers and 2 gyms and one of the gyms had a small room which I went to see the following day. It's not perfect, its more like an office than a salon, but I've done my best to make it nice. I only do 2 days as the room is rented to someone else (non-beauty) 2 days a week too, so what I can do is quite limited.

I woud ring round and like sarajane said - think outside the box. Are there any therapy centres/clinics in your area? x

Aww! That's pretty much what I want, I want something just a few days a week as I also work in my non beauty job!

I'll give a ring around a few places next week, Iv got a week off work so gives me a great time to start looking!

Not that I know of, to be honest, there is doctors, 2 hairdressers (I tried them) charity shops, asda and a ton on beauty salons! And 2 gyms, might try them! But that's about it, so I will very much so have to look outside the box to find something! I also don't want to be like the rest of the salons! :-) xxx

All this searching will pay off when you have found what you were looking for from the very start!

How about placing ads in the local Cheapcycle and Freegle sites as well as the facebook for sale or free pages for your local area. I am sure there are families near you that would appreciate extra money from renting their cabin or shed out to a young enterpreneur. If you cant fit one in your garden there might be someone nearby willing to rent you theirs. Just make sure you have a proper agreement drawn up highlighting the boundaries ( what they are allowed to do and what you are allowed to do) You dont want them coming in and helping themselves to your stuff or their kids playing Beauty Salon with their friends. And they might not want you to leave the gate open for their dog to get out or have clients knocking on their front door.iykwim.
Have you approached your local community centre? Our local one rents out a lovely sized room ( for meetings or conferences usually) at £11 for an evening 6pm till closing time) You could have your first appointment at 6.30 and spend the first half hour setting up and making it inviting. You could have posters at the centre advertising that you will be ther once a week and take bookings in advance, maybe the reception at the centre could take the money up front for you and pass details on to you . It might help temporarily until something else comes up.

Have you approached your local pubs? Sometimes they have wasted space used for storage, you would have toilet facilities, parking and refreshments right there, as well as the pub landlord probably helping to advertise. Maybe do a pamper evening once a month and see how many repeat bookings you get off the back of that.
Golf Clubs, Country Clubs, Local Timeshare resorts, Local hotels, even the Premier Inn, they all have guests that would love a beauty treatment if it was in the hotel.
You would still be able to move around from place to place if you wanted, maybe Monday at a pub, Tuesday at the Community Centre, Wednesday at a local Hotel, Thursday at a Timeshare resort and Friday go out with your friends and relax. LOL

Just a few ideas, I am sure with business being difficult for many businesses out there that they would love to rent out a little storage room to someone who could help ther business along as well.

local community centre is a brilliant idea. They usually have lots of other things going on there so would be people passing regularly.

Try cheap cycle though, something along the lines : Wanted premises to rent for part time beauty therapies. Garden Shed or Log Cabin in secure garden would be ideal. Post Code XXXX

Then your contact details ( e-mail) and then you can sift through the rubbish and call back the possibles.

Have you tried NetMums? you can put free adverts on there as well

Eek! Think I may have found a room, its not too far from me! It's lovely! Small but has a therapy bed in it, I was thinking of just getting it on a Saturday for the moment, or at least asking I should say, I was planning on going back to college in september but I think if the room is ok I may just take it 3 days a week!

What kind of questions should I be asking, apart from rent amounts/days? Xxxx
