I don't know whether to applaud or apologise for this story. I know we all get tired of the latest crazy beauty idea but every time I hear a new one, I simply can't believe it. Then, I simply can't NOT write about it. So, here's how I'm ending Tuesday. With bull testicles.

In the land of the la, la, crazies (Santa Monica), there is a hair treatment bar (is that the same as a hairdresser? Insert blank face here) called TheBroot that specialises in all-natural hair masks. Nothing untoward about that so far, until you get to the bottom of their secret ingredient.

Owner, Samira Asemanfar, says this secret ingredient has been passed down to her through the generations although what those previous generations thought they were doing when they came up with the idea, I have no clue. Anyway, let's get to the crux of the matter.

From February, you can walk into TheBroot and ask for any hair treatment "animal style". You see, even TheBroot don't dare put this on the menu so they've invented a code for it. Ordering something "animal style" means that your chosen mask will have a shot of (are you ready?) bull testicle broth in it. The bull testicles are boiled down to a broth to extract the nutrients and an ounce of this is added to each mask.

Unsurprisingly, I have a few concerns. First, boiled down bull balls aren't going to smell very nice. They just aren't and I don't want that on my hair. Second, how on earth did they figure that out? And, finally, what about the vegetarians?

I literally can't wait to hear what you have to say about this.

Until then...geek on!

I'd rather be smacked around the face with a wet kipper

Great article again, Ed you are truly spoiling us with these beauties!

As a 6 month old veggie I have to ask the question of how the balls are farmed/sourced, animals and their juices etc can never do us any good spread all over out hair faces etc, Its just not on is it?

Think I'll stick with the trusty Matrix Biolage for now ;)
