Hi all, not sure if I have put this in the correct section. Please feel free to move it.

Other than surgery is there anything else I can do to help my ripped eating holes heal. They aren't ripped all the way through but they are pretty close to the edge.
Caused by years of wearing big heavy earrings.
I have left my earring out for a while but they don't close up on there am own.

I would've thought they would heal up on there own, but would take ages! Sorry I'm not more help x

If they have been stretched over a period of time its not a open wound and will not close up it might shrink ,how long have you not worn anything in them for :-D

aaarrrrgggh! I can help with this. Unfortunately I believe this is surgical only :-/ as someone else posted before me, if the skin is not an open wound and just stretched then there is no way for it to bond. Even if you have ripped it (as I did :-( ) then you still need to get up to a and e and they will stitch it/glue whatever. I then had to have revision surgery, privately. What a drama for a fixed earlobe!!! My surgeon is plastics and based in Oxford, it was done under local anaesthetic. I have used silicone gel for 2 years after and the scar is very faint.

ps. you can try and wait to see if the skin improves by itself by leaving earrings out but earlobes are tricky.

I left them out for about a month but with no change so now I put huge studs in however this is making them worse. They look hideous without anything in them.

One of my clients who is a doctor said if I rip it a little bit so it's a fresh wound it will heal but I don't trust myself as I will just rip it all the way through (its hanging by a thread).

I don't feel I could go to a and e as they have just for worse over time although they are sore.

How much was your private surgery if you don't mind me asking. I called a surgeon before and they said it would be approx £1500- £2000 and I don't have that sort of money.

Thank you for your replies.

Hi Kee, I can't remember exactly off the top of my head but I will check back and let you know, it was definitely over a £1000. My surgeon was Mr T. Goodyear, he specialises in facial reconstruction. I was very happy with what he did. I had to go for surgery as I suffer from poor scarring as I have a skin type that scars badly and my body creates excess collagen within scars. I probably would not try and do anything to it yourself, as you know it can cause an infection and could make everything worse. I know it is a nightmare, I don't think it will improve by itself. Have you been to your GP? I did and he referred me to Oxford. I would make your GP your first call, maybe they can help you. wishing you all the best xx

Is it your first hole? Just get it re pierced next to it and then don't wear heavy earrings lol :)

Kee I'm shocked your doctor client would advise you to do this! x

Iv been to the GP and they were going to refer me to someone. I had a letter for a consultation however they cancelled the appointment the day before. that must have been a year ago now. They said they are trying to get funding.

I have a 2nd piecing above but the first holes r really visible. It sounds like I'm just going to have to out up with it : (.

I know its something you dont like

But could you post a pic

One minute i think it must be a small rip then the next it seems like it is big

I feel so sorry for your situation

Do you have long or short hair by the way ?

Just some people who do like there ears often hide behind there hair

I have shorter hair now. When I had long hair I had to tie it back for work.

The on the first pic it makes it look like my other eating holes are really big however they aren't. And u can't see the bottom hole (the one that is ripped) clearly.

The 2nd pic is when I pull it so you can see how big the hole is.

I know how you feel, I am pleased it is not as big as I had in my head!! I imagined the lobe was really stretched. It doesn't seem like anywhere near as bad as mine was if this gives you hope? if it really bothers you keep on at your GP, am not sure if this is covered by some GP's who do minor surgeries (I know mine wouldn't touch mine!!) probably because of the risks if they do. If it really bothers you then you need to see a plastic surgeon because although it seems very small and actually is a simple procedure to carry out in theory, it requires their precise skill as the earlobe can scar very badly, they like to make special incisions such as a z incision to prevent poor or hypertrophic scarring.

Once again, I don't want you to feel I am saying it is not important, because it is to you. But I do want to reassure you that it doesn't look as bad as perhaps you think xx

I would agree

Not as bad as i imagined it, .... I guess my imagination can run a bit wild

I would go to your GP, Because you may be able to get it done for free, and to enquire on a soloution for your problem because it obvouisly affects you so you need it sorted.

Thanks you for being so understanding. I hate it and always try n cover them up. If anyone goes near my ears I flinch. I find it really embarrassing. Iv left it about a year so given it time so I will be contacting the GP to see what is happening. X

I thought it would be worse than that , try not to be embarrassed its nothing to be ashamed of , you aren't the only person I have seen with this I have seen a few , I know that probably doesn't help you though , go back to your gp if its getting you down which is obviously is ,
I can sort of relate though couple of years ago I bought some earrings and they made my ears go mank !
I have 4 piercings on both ears and when people spoke to me that's all they would look at , I wish you the best of luck and hope you get sorted let is know how it goes XxXx

I would just get it re pierced in front of the hole and then wear medium size studs and it will cover the old hole

I know when you pull it its big but realistically when its left in the first pic its really not bad. Not trying to make you feel youre making a fuss or anything just trying to reassure you x

Do you think a butterfly stitch that you can by from the chemist will help close this up?

Maybe it's me thinking its worse than it is but I'm sure it's worse in real life than it is in the pics. I'm worried its going to rip all the way through soon it's that close to the edge.

I just showed the pictures to my husband (a GP). He said the only fix would be surgery.

As the others have said, it doesn't look bad when you're not stretching it. You can try not wearing anything in the stretched holes for awhile and see if the skin shrinks back. I gauged my ears a few years back to a 2 gauge (about 6.5 mm) and they shrunk back to 16 gauge (about 1.2 mm) after months of leaving it bare.
