Do you make your clients pay before the service just incase they don't have the money in their home after the service (since everyone tends to use plastic these days)?????
I personally don't have them pay prior BUT...with doing nails, It wouldn't be a bad idea if you know the cost after looking at their nails. reason being: diggin in their purse with nice fresh nails.
But then again, the downfall of it is that if you run into problems and have to do extra work or they change their mind about something and it will cost more, then they will have to pay twice or you forfeit.
Are you going to have a mobile Credit card machine with you?

If it were me I wouldn't be too happy if a therapist demanded her money before she sat down to the job
I work from home now but used to do mobile. I have always done the money after the cuticle oil/buffing to a shine/gel top coat and before the polish.
I think you have to have an element of trust in people. If they didn't have any/enough money they can drop it in to you or pay you next time. I've never been let down yet and this has happened before to me. If anyone didn't pay they sure as hell won't get another appointment.

All of my clients are informed that they can either pay by cash or cheque, before their first appointment.
So can't say I've ever run in to any problems regarding this.:)

I'm mobile, my clients pay for their treatment after I've finished it, I've not had a problem with non-payment yet.

Same as! The only problem I've ever had is bounced cheques and that's only happened twice in 2 years.

I agree about paying at the end of service, as said before you may run into problems,
Twice though I did have clients who's nails I did, only for them to then inform me, they would have to pay me another day.
The first said she would pay me when she got back of her hol's ...she was flying out at 5am the next morning, but really wanted her nails done
And the second , came payed me for a set I had done for her and a set for her sister in law (2 weeks before)
asked if I could do her infills, while she was there , I did them and thought "yay more money" then she said "oh by the way ill have to pay you for these on next pay day ...(a month away  )

I would love to have a debit card machine but I bet they are pricy! So probably most definately not right away starting the business. Maybe later.
It is the bounced cheques that worries me, or they realize they have to run to the bank or something. Cuz you know what it is like trying to keep your day on time as it is.
Emmysbabes - thats guts on the clients behalf! I would never get a service to come to my home and do it and then say oh I will pay you another day! Thats shocking! thats like getting a cab drive and then once you are there saying see ya I have no money, and running! crazy ppl. lol
If you are worried about bounced checks, would it be possible to state that you are a cash only until the relationship has bulit up and you know they are going to be reliable in paying?
Not that you need to tell them this but make it so they pay cash.
Yes debit/creditcard debts can run high, you just really need to look into the companies policies regarding the fees.
We have had a few clients that come into the salon and after their service or right in the middle of it state that they have a check but it is post dated and I can't deposit it until the following week or they say they don't have any money on them and will be right back to pay. Thus not returning until the next day or later. These clients have no respect for your business and must not be accommodated

My clients pay after rebalance and before any enamel is applied.
If its pedicure etc they pay after treatment.
I accept cash or cheques and have (so far) never had any problems.

my clients pay after enhanement services but before enamel, and my regulars get me to get their money out for them, i have never ever had any problem with non paying clients ever, so maybe i am lucky but i cant see it being the norm for clients not to pay for most of us

My Clients also pay afterwards and I've only ever had one lady that I knew was a dodgy one (I should have trusted my gut) I did her nails and waxing and she said she doesn't have any money can she post it to me. I was fuming as her first cheque bounced and I should never have re booked her.
Other than that only had 1 other bounced cheque.
I normally do the nails, have them wash their hands and pay before we paint.
