Hiya,

I need some advice on what you think the best bowls are for soaking off L&P? I've only got a few clients so far and none have asked for a soak off , I've only done my own, but I'd like to get the proper equipment. Do you use the heated soak off bowls you see on the nail supplier websites or do you use porcelain bowls?

Also, is it me or is a soak off really messy? How do you guys get rid of the liquid mixed with melted acrylic afterwards? I'm mobile at the moment and don't want to make a mess in a clients kitchen sink with the acrylic remains from the soak off.

As I've not been doing L&P for very long I think it may be my product is thicker therefore I have more in the product remover at the end.

Your advice would be greatly appricated!

Cheers :@)

Personally I don't use a soak off bowl, I use the tin foil method.

Soak some cotton wool in product remover, place over the enhancement, then wrap each finger individually in tin foil. If you can cover the hand with something warm, wheat bag/warm towel etc as this will speed the process up. After about 20 mins the enhancement should come off easily enough.

This method IMO is not only more comfortable for the client, but is also less messy and uses alot less product remover so works out better on you purse too!

Joanne beat me to it LOL!

hiya

i use glass bowls one smaller than the other so i put some hot water in the bigger bowl and some acetone in the smaller bowl. place the smaller one in the bigger bowl.

i also remove polish and buff some of the product before applying solar oil to the skin around the nail and placing in the acetone. i then cover the hand and the bowls with a towel.

or when im at a clients or its just a single nail soak off i dip a cotton or lint free pad in acetone wrap it around the clients nail then cover it with foil. in this case i also use solar oil around the clients skin. this method can also be used for removing all nails.

it doesnt make too much mess. place a sheet of couch roll on the desk in front of you and you can use a plastic cuticle pusher (or an orange stick thinly wrapped in cotton wool) to help remove the product

hth if you got more questions fire away!!! :green:

Thanks Joanne I'll have a look at that thread.

Thanks to you too Hope, that's a good tip. I have a client on Thursday who has texted me to say she's been naughty and picked a couple so I may need to soadk one or two off. I don't sculpt at the moment so I can't repair a broken enhancement very easily.

Hi Nikki, that's what I've done when I've soaked off my own enhancements but I did find it a hassle to get rid off all the gunk at the at bottom of the bowl afterwards.

Thanks too 1999judy. I'll have a ganders at that link.

thanks guys! wanted to ask your advice before I spend money on certain bowls. I think I'm wavering towards the foil method as it sounds less of a mess.

Hiya,

don't want to make a mess in a clients kitchen sink with the acrylic remains from the soak off.

i was taught you should not dispose of the acetone down the sink as it can damage the waste pipes - :confused:any plumbers on line to confirm this?

Hiya VillageNails,

Totally!, commonsence would say not to pour this mixture down the drain but in my training for L&P it was never really discussed how to dispose of the product. Like I say I've not done a soak off for a paying client yet only my own. When I've done mine I use kitchen roll to get the gooey stuff out but you can't help getting some of the liquid product remover down the plug hole?! ~

How do you do yours? would you also advice lint free pads and foil? thanks again :@)

i completely soak all the product out of the bowl with one or two pieces of my couch roll and put it in my waste bag - dispose of it all at home. HTH

Thanks Villagenails, not sure why i've not thought of that before! and yes it's always good to take your rubbish home with you. I've always done that even if the client says I can put it in their bin I still take it away with me.

cheers me deers :@)

just thought id mention, i have a little metal bin about 6 inches high, with a lockable lid on it (think its supposed to be a coffee or sugar canister) i put all my waste in this and bring it home with me, so theres no smell or anything, in their house or the car, now obviously i only do my own and 1 family and 1 friend, but ive found it invaluable so far

If your mobile the best method is the tin foil one.. no faffing about with bowls and mess etc.. just wrap fingers and go... also means client can have a coffee or tea while they soak in their tinnys for 20 odd mins.
