How awful for you to have suffered for so long and not know you weren't alone, or that there is a geniune medical condition that explains how you feel I'm so glad you've found the website about it, maybe talking to other sufferers and tips from them may help you overcome the urge at really bad times and comfort you when you're feeling more postive I've certainly heard of the disorder before, although never met anyone who suffers - or who has admitted it, maybe they were too shy I think there should be a recognised medical condition for nail biters too - I'm a serious nail cannibal, and as much as I try I can't stop it, hell most of the time I don't even realise I'm doing it Sending you lots of love and positive wishes Love Trin xx |

Hi,
I seen this on a tv program a few years back i'm so glad you have found others who suffer from it as well maybe you could do a search for a forum and then you could talk to others. I hope you find some comfort in the website you have found. |

I think you're very brave to open up like this.
My friend has this disorder. When she was a young teenager, she pulled her eyelashes out (every one) for many years. Then she was kinda ok for a number of years but now is doing the same to her eyebrows. It drives her mad, and everyone else LOL. Good luck to you and let us know if there's a cure. xxx Ps. Don't know if this is different but I had a neighbour, a very beautiful young woman who cut her hair of in lumps and she wore a wig. Very sad. |

Hi Caz,
I just wanted to say how much I respect what you have done. You have admitted to having this problem and you are very brave to share it with all of us. What a horrible thing to have to live with for so many years and to finally have found that others suffer too must be somewhat of a relief and answer to alot of questions. I suffered with Epilepsy for about 14 years and I've been fit free for about 4 years now, it took me all my life to tell people about this, either that or they usually found out when the Ambulance showed up more often than not, very embarrassing as an adult but I'm all okay now!! I wish you all the best hun and believe that you will find the help and support to overcome such a terrible thing. We are always here for you no matter what, you mean the world to us!!! lots of love and hugs for you!!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx |

I never knew it had a name either...I used to pull out my eyelashes when I was pregnant with my first child. And every so often I start yanking on my eyebrows because they feel sore...I know that makes no sense to anyone. I haven't pulled out my eyelashes in 15 years and I just yanked a couple of strands of eyebrow hairs a few days ago. Caz you're not alone we all have our crosses to bear....
For example when I was in elementary or middle school I used to bite the taste buds off my tongue until it was sore and bleeding...I did this for a good long while and I finally stopped...every once and a while I will catch myself and mentally stop myself before I do major damage...it was a horrible habit and quite painful. |
