Quoting Unnecessarily Drives Me Nuts

Ive just got up so Im probably a bit more sensitive to this than normal but...

When a thread is just started and there is no other posts, why (oh why) do Geeks feel the need to quote the whole 1st post? Its obvious which post you are responding to as its THE ONLY ONE! lol

Sometimes the whole post is not needed as a quote, just a line or something would probably do, it isnt a big thing but it annoys me to have to scroll through all the extra print, not to mention what all this extra quoting is doing to the site (clogging it up?).

So, can we all think about it 1st when we are about to quote a whole post, or the 1st one especially, is it really necessary, or can we just reply as normal.

I don't know how many times I have thought about writing a thread like this!!!! I am just about to GO to bed but it still gripes me no matter what time of the day!!!!! May be I'm just grumpy all the time!!!!PMSL!!!

i agree if its long long posts...but i have to admit i think im guilty of doing myself ...not sure i think i do ..ooo i dont know!

if it's a long post and peeps want to refer to one or two points made then they can remove the text that doesn't apply...

Easy done when you've got the mouse with the scroll thingy, but when I'm on my crappy old comp it drives me nuts.

Can you not buy a mouse for your laptops? I bought them for my sons and they were about £3 each.

I can't handle the things they have on the laptop to do it. I end up all over the place.
On my daughters laptop at the moment but shes got the good mouse too. SO quote all you want, I don't care............til I'm back on mine

I am not sure how to just use part of a post so if I want to quote I have to put the whole lot in - I know I should know how to do it by now, just never got the time to muck about.

I only think its necessary to quote when answering someone else who has posted, not answering the initial thread.
Sometimes it does my head in scrolling down through unnecessary text.
