Graphics in your advert??? - 18-09-06, 12:50 PM

I'm looking at having some signs made for my car windows,I want a picture in with the design, does anyone know how I go about this without infringing any copyrights please?
I know only a couple of months ago somebody off of here was charged(not sure what came of that)very heavily because she got her pics from a site without permission.Obviously I dont want that to happen.
It would be a cartoon type of graphic not a picture of a person,I'm really not sure about this so would be grateful if anyone has any ideas.Thanks.

There are four ways of completely avoiding copyright infringement...

1/ Design your own image...

2/ Commission it to be designed for you...

3/ Use a royalty free image from (search royalty free on internet), but these tend to be limited in what you can find - pretty flowers are often available!

4/ Find an image supplier and pay for the use of the image - fees vary dependant on the image.

Hope this helps...

Thanks for that Lyndsey,my hubby is fab with drawing so might just get him to draw what I need, will have a look on the site too though, just in case.
Do you know if the drawing has to be to scale for the advert,or can the designers enlarge ect?
Sorry I'm not at all familiar with any of this, feel a bit like a dinosaur,LOL

I'm no expert when it comes to graphic design, but as far as size goes, I think its generally best to start out with something much larger than you think you'll need. For instance, if the design is to be used as a business logo with a finished size of 200 x 200 pixels, I would start out designing it at 2000 x 2000 pixels. Its always easy to reduce the size of a graphic, however, trying to increase the size of a finished design nearly always results in degradation of the original.

yes seanny is right - its much easier for a designer to reduce and image then try to enlarge a poor quality one - in many cases the poor quality ones end up being re-drawn which costs more then it would to design a logo in the first place! HTHxx

Hi

A good designer/printer can work with the image at any size, but quality is the key...it can't go too big if its a tiny little image as you lose definition.

Do you have a particular image in mind? We just did a good search of the internet for logo's etc for mine and then came up with a mixture of several things I liked, so it wasn't 'like' anyone's in particular....just representative of the sort of thing that I liked.

Here's mine...just as an example

I'm currently getting it put on sunshades for inside my car windows, with a phone number underneath....they are quite cheap!

great advice zingara!!! this is the best thing to do - go armed with loads of ideas that the designer can work with - theres nothing worse then someone saying 'i dont know what i want' go with a few ideas - colours, styles you like etc and keep it as simple as you can xx

Car window signs - 18-09-06, 03:05 PM

I have been trying to find somewhere that will do these, but can't seem to find anywhere local (Bedfordshire) - probably looking in the wrong place

I liked the idea of the sun shade type that could pop on and off the window easily - any ideas where I might be able to find those, or are the ones you are looking at similar?

Taaaaaa,

Lewi
