I started off with a Hara Starter Kit from Aston and Fincher. It had a wax heater, pre wax cleanser, post wax soothing lotion, tub of wax, spatulas and strips. I think it cost about £40.

I still use the heater, although I have tried different waxes. My clients really like the Lavender Creme wax that I am using at the moment.

HTH's. Good luck with the course hun.

i use the tea tree wax tube system by australian bodycare, not sure exactly how much think maybe bout £50-60, its fab for mobile-home use and u can get a car charger to keep it warm on the go!! One of most hygienic, ones on market and very very quick-much quicker application than spatula method! Hth. x

Hive do a fab starter kit .... and when I was at the Gmex show last year there was a queue a mile long at the Hive & Beauty Stand.... I thought I must get what everybody else was getting... and it turned out to be a great bargain... 1000 ml wax pot, warm wax, pre was cleanser, post wax soothing cream, spatulas, wax strips. It was about 45 qiud altogether .. about 15 pound cheaper than normal.

There is always bargains to be had the shows... Gmex is almost here too

Hi Vicky.

I've been looking at the Australian Body Care wax system. Where did you get it from? Do you have to have specialist training by the company?

Thanks Vicci

I'll check it out.

I like the idea of being able to keep it heated up in my car, as I do quite a bit of mobile work.

When it comes to pot and spatula waxing, I love and still use the Hive 1000cc heaters - they come with a removable inner bucket and "scraper bar" that you can use for hard or strip waxes. The only downside is that plastic wax tubs melt if you put them straight into the heater, so unless your wax comes in a metal tin you will need to decant it into the bucket first. The smaller 500cc version can take plastic pots directly, and might be a better (and less messy) choice to start with.

Hive do a few good value starter packages (inlcuding a student kit) that include waxes, strips, spatulas and lotions. Ellisons don't seem to have the Hive kits in their latest catalogue, but you can see them at Welcome to Hive of Beauty

Their waxes and lotions are good value and do the job well. It's easy to get bamboozled by all the different choices, but whatever range you go with, whilst learning I would recommend sticking with a cream style wax (creme waxes tend to melt at a lower temperature and are generally suitable for most skin types), a basic pre-wax lotion, and a basic post-wax soothing lotion. Do try both paper and muslin strips to see which you get on with better (my preference is paper).

With the larger Hive heaters that NailFX and I mention, you need to decant the wax out of the plastic tubs and into the bucket that comes with it - unless your wax comes in a metal tin, in which case you can just shove the whole kitandkaboodle in the heater! You can also buy spare buckets if you want to use different wax.

With smaller heaters you can usually just put the whole pot in without having to decant your wax first.

You can use any make of wax from any company in any heater, providing the pot fits - most wax tubs come in a standard size that will fit the heaters made by other companies.

the college kit is supplied by ellisons .we did get an order form ..but as manicure and pedicure are the first module (which i dont have to attend,as i have only just compleated it )
a lot of the items in the kit were manicure /pedicure items and as i already have these ..i had a word with the tutor and she agreed there was no point in me buying the kit ,just to get the items i did need for the other modules ...which are
*waxing
*facials/make up
*eye treatments (tinting ,perming ect...)
waxing seems to be next on the list after christmas ...im dead excited !!!

thankyou so much everybody for your help ..i knew i could reley on all of you to help me out xxx
