Yes I recycle probably not nearly enough tho.
The boxes we have for cans and bottles etc are not big enough and the paper one is pretty inadequate I feel really guilty when I have to put the excess in the normal bin. |

My friend has a rubbish(parden the pun, lol)bin, not enough to swing a cat. I think if the councils are serious about recycling they should make the bins as user friendly as poss or it will put peeps off.. Sorry, this sounds a really boring thread, but it is important. |

recycling -
11-11-06, 09:34 PM
We also recycle..
When our children were in elementary school, they were taught all about recycling everything... cans, papers etc..(so we have been doing it for years).. If my Husband or I left a room and left the lights on.. both the kids were after us!! So we pretty much had to recycle, and save on electricity, or we would hear from the kids.. But the world would be in much better shape if everyone would do there part... Sincerely the nail fairy ![]() |

Dont you think everything has far too much packaging on it. My mum has recently reminded me about how they would take bottles back to the offie and egg boxes back to the grocer and she would just carry a bag about from shop to shop and they would weigh her veg etc and tip it in.

Recyling isn't just enough -
11-11-06, 09:44 PM
I recyle glass, cardboardm paper, tins, and plastic into the green bins that my council provide.
I even bring all the water bottles back home from work as the company won't pay for a green bin. But i don't stop there, i also don't leave the tap running un-necessiarly and only ever boil enough water in the kettle for drinks needed, use low energy bulbs, dont leave my tv etc on standby, use my carrier bags as bin liners, switch lights off as i leave the room and walk rather than use my car whenever i can even if it is raining. Recyling and being energy efficient is so important. I do beleive that people that dont care enough if at all about the planet should pay a penality and i would have no problem with my bin tagged as being trialled in certain areas |

OMG yes absolutely, it's soooo important we do it. I have to admit it's not something I thought alot about til I had kids but we should be doing everything possible to improve our environment.

We definitely recycle, the only thing our local council wont collect is plastic bottles (eg milk & squash bottles). The kids fight to take them down to tescos as their sparkly new recyling machine counts how many you've put in and even tells you off if you try to do 2 at a time!
How tempting is it to try and be told off by a machine!?!Try to put energy saving bulbs in all your lights too, not only are we saving tonnes of energy, but our electricity bill has noticeably reduced over the last year. |

We recycle cans, glass, food waste, cardboard, news papers all via the council....all the recycled stuff gets collected on a weekly basis...the rest gets collected fortnightly.
They don't collect plastic....we take it to Morrisons....it's a big bin filler. We also share a garden waste bin with our next door neighbour. When the council first brought it in and said that your general rubbish would only be collected fortnightly I was like OMG how are we going to cope with that as a family of 5 and 2 dogs....but I can say that there has never been a fortnight where the black bin has been overflowing now that we have made the effort to do the recycling. However, there are things which concern me about recycling....we don't process it all in this country....like we ship so much of our newspaper recycling to China to be recycled into cardboard packaging for all those cheap toys we get over here....is that a good use of fossil fuels, sending it all that way to be recycled just to be sold back to us? I read an article in the Times not so long ago about one of the richest women in China who has made a mint from doing just this....importing waste from other countries to recycle it into pakaging. The government has set local councils targets for recycling and reducing the amount of rubbish that goes into land fill, which IMO is great.....but do we really know how much of it goes overseas for them to put in their land fill....cheaper than processing it here. I asked the council why they wouldn't take plastic, which is a large part of our recycling....it was a money issue...it would cost too much to buy a new fleet to collect it as the existing fleet is up to capacity and then the processing costs on top of that. Anyways RECYCLE WHATEVER YOU CAN WE NEED TO WORK FOR OUR ENVIRONMENT |
