Just curious as to what makes a geek give positive or neg rep points to another geek.

I give out rep points when people either A) pay attention to me lol B)say something I feel is TOTALLY Brilliant, or C) feel they need a boost.

I only give neg reps to those being snotty brats And I ALWAYS leave a message telling them WHY.

What about the rest of yaaaaaa?

And since we are on the subject of OPINION: what makes you vote for a thread???

I feel inclined to give rep points when someone takes the time to help me out or advice me on something I am asking for help with. I have to say that in the 4 years I have been using this site I have been privaliged to be given the very best advice by other,more experienced Nail Geeks and am truley grateful.

The title of this thread doesn't make sense?!

I give out rep if someone makes me laugh, is helpful to me or others... and I can see by a post that someone has put a lot of time and effort in.

I give out pos rep for all sorts of reasons, if someone has made a lot of effort to reply, if it makes me guffaw, if it is informative and helpful, if someone has helped me and so on.

What I don't ever give pos rep for is when someone has whinged about neg rep in a thread and not to a moderator, and it really pees me off when people do this. Whingeing about neg rep in a thread is a no no as far as GMG goes, so to reward it by saying here's a pos rep to balance out the neg is pretty pants IMO!

I very rarely neg rep and usually it's if someone's attitude totally sucks. I never neg just for someone having a different opinion to me, even if I am strongly opposed to their views. Everyone has a right to their own opinion.

I rate a thread if I think others will find it interesting!

I give out pos rep for good advice be it nail or non nail related and also when somebody has gone out of their way and taken time to answer a thread or post. I also give pos if somebody has really made me have a good laugh or just been very kind and supportive in a moment of need.

I really VERY occasionally dish out neg rep. The poster has to be a complete troll, be it rude, abusive, down right petty and pathetic.

If some one is totaly bril, helps me or some one else out, needs a lift, makes me laugh or makes me stop and think, have never given some one a neg rep but if I did I think it would be for some one being crewl to another tech and I would always say why and who I am

I've never given any neg rep as yet, I think someone would really have to upset/offend me first.

As for positive rep, I give it if people are kind and thoughtful, witty and helpful.

I give pos rep when i feel its deserved...great thread/post...helpful...ect

I don't give neg rep very often at all....but when i do i always say why in a nice way (often starts with sorry ) and leave my name....xxx

i give out possitive rep when i think some one as been heplful, kind and funny...
i havent give out neg rep

i vote for threads that i think are really good full of information ect

Sometimes I'm absent minded/lazy, and although I read posts that to MY mind, merit a rep.. I 'forget'.

THEN I'll 'wake-up' and go about bouncing around in threads I've already read, looking for 'the' post that stuck in my mind that was helpful/informative, and rep the person who was helpful/informative.
Then pos rep until I've run out and the system tells me to come back in 24hrs ROFL

I give out POS reps for:
- good assistance/advice
- great ideas
- positive outlook & general kindness to others

I have given out only a small handful of neg reps, and usually think awhile before I do, then go back:
I give out neg reps for negative ka-ka and what I see as "meaness" and unconstructive posting.
I dont mind people voicing opinions, even if they differ from my own. That's ok.
But if they're not polite and kind, if they're destructive and negative, I neg rep.

If you want to help, do it kindly.
No need for miserable negative attitudes nor behaviours around here.

I think that sometimes a complaint or notification to the mods is seen as whingeing about the neg rep, But I am becoming more aware that it is not the neg that bothers people, but the hurtful comments. It really does seem that this is done simply because of a difference of opinion only and I personally don't agree with this. If we gave out neg for disagreeing with somebody, then I would have given out hundreds by now.

i give pos rep if, the person taught me something, helped me out without knowing it, being nice thoughtfull.....and if i just feel "ah bless"
i dont like people who crow about their neg rep...i have had neg rep and well it went over my head, i would never neg rep someone just cause they neg repped me......i find the pm or pager system worth its weight before if i think someone is out of order.
i have only given neg rep on 2 occasions and that was for out and out nastiness.....i wouldnt ever give neg rep if i disagreed with someones opinion.....
i should dish out more pos rep though i dont think i do that enough

I give pos rep when someone has taken the time to answer a query of mine, been very helpful/sharing their knowledge, just generally being a decent person to others.
