When you have filled out your profile - what have you put as your location?

I was surfing round the site the other day looking for a nail technician in Camberley and thought I would just scroll through the list of members. I couldn't find anyone, but then I gave up eventually.

I came across locations along the lines of Home, Mars, Heaven, Here, UK, etc. etc.

Please help yourselves by putting in your actual location, if you want to get any potential referrals from here.

I eventually placed an ad in Geekbay for a tech but so far no takers.

I agree some idea of location is good,i only put yorkshire as my pic is up so it's a form of protecting myself from the www iykwim.

Never had thought about it like that Fiona - good point - but saying that mine states where I am from because -

"e by gum I'm Yorkshire and reit proud of it"

I do like to know where people are from when talking to them but I know some geeks want to keep fairly anonymous!

I did struggle to decide where to put it but originally it was in chit chat then I thought put it in Geekbay under "I am looking for..." - it is not really a recruitment thing because I am looking for a technician for a client rather than offering a job if that makes sense LOL.

i have put my location as west sussex
as that is where i am.... i have many clients from sussex and surrey
and lots of ppl do travel to me as they like what i do

i could list that i am in Crawley but West Sussex does sound far nicer....lol

plus on the education front i cover a much larger area (Sussex, Surrey, South London, Kent etc..) and if anyone want to contact me due to that the just listing Crawley mite confuse people

ps... is Camberley near Guildford?...that mite help your search......... just looked on the google map...camberley - Google Maps its nt that far from the M3 either and one of my ladies lives in Farnborough just down the road from Camberley

I put Surrey, as I don't want to limit myself to just my town.

So do I as I do agree with Oey but like you also say anon can be prefereable.

I'd like to be more open but as there are some unscrupulous people out there i'd hate to think that any weakness I have in nails were used to someone elses advantage.

I might lose out on a customer here or there but I personally right now feel happier being anon.

I must admit I only put Scotland.....which is even worse than putting a region/county....but I work in both Glasgow and Edinburgh. So I can't put either West Scotland or East!

I know how annoying it can be as when I see other geeks with Scotland on their location I wonder if I know them......and then it turns out they are way up in the North East hunderds of miles away!!!!

It also makes all the other global and even English geeks think that Scotland is this tiny wee place where everyone does live down the single track road or across the Loch from each other !!!!

That said I just wouldn't put my actual home town....just because this is T'internet and I worry about security!!

I have put where I am so they can all come beating a path to my door.

I've got mine down as Valencia, but in reality I'm 25 minutes drive from there so to try and find me would be like finding a needle in a haystack lol... but it does give a general idea of where I am!

i prefer to stay a bit incognito for the time being !
