Can someone help me?

I have used a cleanser from a well known high street retailer. It is their own brand of cleanser.

I applied it over the weekend and Monday morning my face was red, burning and itching!

it now feels that all the moisture in my skin has been sucked out. It has started to flake but it feels like i have another layer of skin on my face.

Yes i know i should have done a skin test first, but i thought it would be ok.

Does anyone have any ideas on what i can now use to put back the moisture? it is still quite sensitive aswell.

OOoh that sounds terrible, try washing it off just with water, pat dry then apply aloe vera gel or even some jojoba depending on your skin type, if its still sore and itchy try taking an anti inflammatory BUT check with your doctor first.

Now you know what id recommend and i feel a bit guilty now because its not a professional product ,as such.Almond oil.Great on this sort of thing and as long as you dont have an allergy to almond oil.

i have a sweet almond base oil.

Yes its good on its own for dry ,irritated skin it certainly wont do any harm. Its often recommended for babies for their dry skin and cradle cap ,see how you get on.Warm it a little first and put a thickish layer on to soak in like an oil mask.

Hi it sounds very sore, i would use a fragrent free milky moisturiser possible a johnson baby lotion. Then i would look at the ingredience this happened to me and i found out that i get red blisters due to RETINOL thats in creams. This is in almost every anti ageing cream so beware. Hope this helps.

Johnson's Baby Lotion is one of the most highly-fragranced products I know of!

Do not use this on your irritated skin.

Make sure you rinse this cleanser throughly off your face, not by scrubbing but with plenty of lukewarm water.

Water is the best emollient for skin, the only problem being that it evaporates very quickly. Splash your face repeatedly with lukewarm water then apply Bio Oil (or almond oil like Gillian recommended) to your damp skin. This will lock moisture in and hopefully sooth your irritation.

Hi Orchid, so sorry to hear about your reaction. Very soothing simple products like gillian, becca and Amy said... Almond oil or olive oil aloe vera (as long as it's prue with no fragrance...right from the plant would be best) or Shea butter is very good if you can find it, very protective.

But fragrance free and uncomplicated products are what you want to stick with for awhile. Do check the ingredients out on this product, you will want to know what your sensitive to in the future and narrowing it down when you have a reaction like this is a good idea.

Do you generally have sensitive skin?? Have you ever reacted to other products before?
I agree it sounds like a more aggressive product like a retinol cream.

If it doesn't start to heal quickly you might consider seeing a dermatologist, don't let it get worse.

Definitely take the product back to the store you purchased it from and get your money back...at least give it a try.

This is the best reason in ever to consider finding a good Esthetician or Skin Specialist that can get to know your skin and help you with products that work well with your skin. Someone that knows their product and knows skin.

Thank you for your replies. They are great thank you.

I had a bath and some of the skin came off. I then used Almond Oil and left it to soak in.

It appears to be much better today so i am going to try it again tonight.

I tend to avoid perfumed products as i have had an irritation before, but not as bad as this. Its not really sensitive, but i dont like using perfumed ones just incase. This one claimed to be fragrance free, and ideal for sensitive skin!

Once my skin improves, can anyone suggest a good cleanser/toner and moisturiser. I also suffer from acne, its not really bad but i am 26 now....and to keep having spots is a little embarassing!

I dont really want to pay the earth for it, i was using clarins, which was lovely but a tad expensive. Any ideas?

I think you should also get in touch with the manufacturers of the product and let them know what happened. Maybe you're not the only one who's had the problem.

Do you have a regular mosituriser that you use? Can you tell me what it is, or if it contains retinol? Just really worried as you say some of your skin came off, and although I'm not blaming this entirely on either your cleanser or your mosituriser (if you do use one regularly), it could be a combination of the two.

Also, I know you've purposely not mentioned the name of the cleanser that's irritated you, but would you mind PMing me with it, as I'm really interested to know what it is.

As far as recommending a good skincare routine for you, I think your best bet is to visit a local reputable salon who will be able to give much better advice than anyone on this forum, as they will be able to analyse your skin thoroughly in person. My preference is for natural and organic skincare, so when you're looking for a salon, this is what I would recommend you look for regards the skincare range thay carry.

I agree with everything that Amy said. Firstly make a note of all the products ingredients, then write to the manufacturer to inform them what has happened. Also return the product to wherever you bought it from and also tell them what happened, you may even get your money back.

Finally find a good salon, which has been recommended to you if possible and get some professional advice about your skin type and what they think could benefit it most.

Where about in Devon are you? If you're in the South I could possibly recommend somewhere.
