Orange tan??? - 22-05-07, 05:55 PM

Hi People,

What are your views on spray or fake tans at the salon?

I see so many orange people walking around London its scary.

My friend went for a (reputable brand) tan at a salon, but she still looked orange to me and unnatural.

I was thinking of getting into it, but if everyone turns out unnatural looking is it really beautiful. And I dont think I could offer something that makes a person look worse. After all I think pale is quite lovely

Seriously, what do you think?

Have you seen any good results with fake tans?

Hi,

I think that you may be seeing either cases of people just over doing it or even just bad home tans as some of them are very orange. Naturasun offer loads of different shades and when I have had spray tanning myself from them I have just had a nice healthy glow which I asked for. I know they have ones now which are olive based so avoiding orange.

Hope this helps as im no expert

Naturasun have a great range of solutions as do many other brands.
If your interested in spray tanning its well worth looking into it a little further as its a great service to offer.
None of my clients ever turn out orange!!

There is absolutely no need for any 'professional' tan to turn the client orange. If the technician does a full consultation before applying the tan and the client adhears to the advise of the technician, and if the tan 'is professionally applied' by a fully competent operator would not go orange.

There are many quality professional tans now on the market. Do some more research (there has been loads of discussions on this forum so lots to read in the search facility) also get feedback from techs that have tried and tested them.

I love spray tanning, have been spraying now for almost 2 years and I can't remember any of my clients complaining of the 'orange' look.

This is such a valid point, tans have changed over the years, and a professional tan is such a better option.

Having tried Tantrick from sassy changed my mind about tanning immensely.

I use Tantrick spray tans and not one of my clients has turned orange. They have different strength solutions so you can always find the right one for each client.

Su-do - 22-05-07, 07:17 PM

I always get really good results with Su-do, and use it myself all the time. If people didn't know I am naturally pale they would believe I had been on holiday...

I normally use the Bronze lotion as it is not too dark for my skin and looks a very natural colour..... wears off well too!!

The reason people go orange is from trying to go too dark - trying to spray it on too heavy or from using a colour level that is too dark for your natural skin tone.

You can make someone orange with any spray tanning solution on the market, it all boils down to poor application and what DHA level (active tanning ingredient) is used. That is all. Less is more when it comes to fake tan.

It does not matter what base colour a product claims to be, DHA, or rather too much of it, is what causes the orange, unnatural look.

I always use St Ttropez and have never had a complaint in the years I have been providing this service to my clients.

I think if it's professionally applied you should be fine. I see a lot of orange tans too, and I'm afraid I 'play dumb' and sometimes say to the person "oh what a great colour - where did you get it done?" They all say they applied it at home, which you can usually tell by the dark brown stains on the hands!

I've been using St Tropez for years now, and never a problem - just beautiful tans with no sun damage. The only problem I've ever encountered is DIY fakers who want me to put right their mistakes, streaks, orangey bits, stained palms and nails.

Most "orange" tans are a result of wrong DHA being applied to the clients skin type. Make sure you use a product which comes in different % DHA. We do 6, 8 and 12% you can mix in equal quantities 8 + 12 to make a 10%. Also poor technique - applying too much product onto the skin. There is absolutely no need to turn your client orange. Make sure you use a good quality product and equipment and you cant go wrong.
