Dear All,

I am thinking of training with Karen Betts as a friend said the Nouveau Contour system was excellent. I have also seen that is about £6,000 to train (or can I expect to pay more realistically or is this about right)? I read somewhere that someone paid about £10,000 or is that a bit expensive? I just don't know what to expect as I'm new to this field.

I am a bit weedy when it comes to blood (does this matter)? Do you see a lot of blood and discomfort in this line of work? And I have an "A" at A-level in Art which I should imagine will be a great asset? Is it a huge growing industry (I live in the Lake District and this would be very cutting edge round here) I don't know whether it would be a huge success or a huge flop!

I have just heard though, from another friend who said (she thought) you had to be a trained beauty therapist for 10 years before you could do PMU - is this right because when I rang up today nobody mentioned anything about previous experience, I am a CND nail tech not a beautician as yet - I'm starting all that in September!

I would love you hear from you all!

Many thanks,

Lydz xxx

Dear All,

Yes she is excellent and a lovely lady too.

I have also seen that is about £6,000 to train (or can I expect to pay more realistically or is this about right)?
I've just checked Karens site for you and with her special offer, it'll be just over £7,000 including vat.

I am a bit weedy when it comes to blood (does this matter)? Do you see a lot of blood and discomfort in this line of work?
No blood.........sometimes spotting.
Discomfort...........some people find lips very painful even with topical anesthetics.

And I have an "A" at A-level in Art which I should imagine will be a great asset?
It is indeed.

Is it a huge growing industry (I live in the Lake District and this would be very cutting edge round here) I don't know whether it would be a huge success or a huge flop!
It'll be what you make it.

I have just heard though, from another friend who said (she thought) you had to be a trained beauty therapist for 10 years before you could do PMU - is this right because when I rang up today nobody mentioned anything about previous experience, I am a CND nail tech not a beautician as yet - I'm starting all that in September!
Incorrect.........no need to be a therapist.

Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions. xxx

You will only get a basic kit with that! and yes with all the extra kit and all the other bits needed, you will be over 10000.inc

No blood! im shocked. I have done many and followed Karen and her team about... and some peoples lips bleed really bad....really. when you do a full blush, just lip liner is old school...old timers may still just offer this... if you are woth your salt, you must full blush.

If you are not getting this I would say retrain! really.... you cannot be going deep enough. or the method you was taught... there is no way you was trained by Karen.

I have seen this many times, shocked? Lips are a bag of blood, I have no idea what you are talking about.....

I'm fully aware that lips are bags of blood, but I'm happy to say that I have excellent results with just spotting. After all, you don't expect your brains to fall out when you're having highlights with a cap. It's a proven fact that if the lips bleed too much, the pigment won't stay. Too much trauma and the body naturally closes down.

Yes you're correct.........I wasn't trained by Karen. Not for any personal reason as I think she's fantastic and a really smashing person. I was worried about the white pigment that she uses to give a lip pout. I have done my homework (that's why I trained with Finishing Touches), and every other company have refused to use this method. Why? Because the white pigment will turn BLACK under laser............Not a good look.

How can you make this comment?
Surely you can advise clients and give your recommendations but when all is said and done it is down to what the client wants.
If a client only requires a lip line then that is what he/she should get. There is no "must" about it.

* Please see my comment within the quote box *

Any pmu specialist should be aware of the fact that if your client bleeds too much when doing lips it is highly likely that the pigment will not hold under the skin as to much trauma has been caused.

I cannot say that when carrying out a procedure there will be no blood at all as every client is different but i can pretty much guarantee that there will be very little!!

PMU Training - 11-06-07, 01:14 PM

Hi Layrex9 and geeks

I trained with Debra Robson-lawrence(take a look at her website)
www.permanet-makeup.com

What can i say about Debra..one of the most respected trainers in the industry(looked upon by many other PMU techs and trainers in the uk for her fantastic work and commitment to the industry)
I have done my basic and advanced training with Debra..she is BRILL!

contact Debra's office and ask for Geraldine 0845 230 2021
Geraldine will send you out a training price package
you can ask Geraldine any questions you have...she is Aesthetic Beauty Consultan for Debra at Harley St
she is a complete A-Z on PMU(fantastic phone support after care)when you have trained
not many PMU academys put a fully qualified tech on phone lines to help with adavise(but Debra does)how fantastic is that
In nail terms...
Its like putting the Grand Geek himself on the phones to answere questions anytime you have a problem with your clients or techniques(Geraldine also works clinic days) they have other stand ins for the missing days who can help you with any questions you have

Hiya

Lips..blood is the big issue here

Lips are vascular and can bleed quite alot

Alcohol and some forms of medication can increase blood flow during these treatments by thinning the blood.
clients are advised not to have alcohol several days b4 treatment and after.

use a dry gauze pad working from your good working side up and over the lip area blotting the lip with the gauze and holding it over the worked area.
The area you are working towards has fresh pencil lines and blood free.

when you have applied your first run lipline...you have a guide you can now wipe clean.
At this point run over the lip area you are working on(scratch open the lip area using your 5 magnum and numb it with Tag45)sweep over lip fast using the wider side of your 5point

over wipe or over use of wet cotton wool pads during a lip procedure is not a good idea..water can swell the skin.

You can also reduse the pain by.. seeking out a good dentist in your area who is happy to work with you and give your clients a dental block, for complete pain relief.
Remember when doing this you must draw your pencil guide in first..the lips can swell after dental block.
use a semi permanent lip pencil and book your client in afer she has visited the dentist whilst numbing.

Jenx
