Levels 2 AND 3 are needed by most salons. I don't understand why you can't get on the level 2 course, unless it's a funding issue or something similar. |

Im a little confused?? I am 30 and started my NVQ2 Beauty Therapy course last september at my local college, 1 day per week for a year (9 months technically) there is also at my college this course for under 18 years olds too, they do more days a week for a longer period. Why have you been told you are unable to do an NVQ at 23??? or am I not following this properly LOL!!

hi i was allowed to do nvq 2, im 23 yrs old and the college had no age limit apart from that you have to be over 16. The oldest on the course was 56, i do think its odd that you have to be under 19 tho i would ask lsc to find out where the nearest college that would allow you to the course you want.

I'm 36, and I've just started an NVQ2 in Beauty Therapy at North Warwickshire and Hinckley college, on a course specifically designed for over nineteens.
As someone else suggested, it might be a funding issue, maybe to do with the Government's ELQ funding cuts. But if they specifically mention the courses under adult education in the prospectus, maybe it's worth calling the colleges again and pointing that out and asking them to explain. It might be worth seeing if you could manage the full time course. 'Full time' in college certainly isn't what I'm used to from working full time! The Carshalton website says the full-time course is 15 hours per week (presumably plus homework). Finally, I don't know if you've checked the OFSTED westie (http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/reports/) but that's a great place to look when you're trying to decide while college to choose. They have assessments of the colleges right down to the individual departments. |

Hi hunni
I am currently doing the VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Specialist Techniques,(part time, 1 year). I go on a Tuesday and Thursday evening to do this course (in Huddersfield though) I love it. We do Facials, makeup, waxing, eyelash extensions, tinting, eyelash perming, manicures, pedicures, and we get trained to use dermalogica products outside college. I also work part time and I have a 1 year old daughter. I am also doing a holistics and massage course level 2 and 3, but that is a seperate course. I just wanted to explain what I do. You dont need to do an NVQ, ITEC is national recognised qualification. I have just gone 24 so we are the same age, and on my course I am one of the yougest, which i dont mind, I wouldnt want to do a course that was full of 16 year olds!! Hope that what I have said helps you in some way hunni xxx |

ITEC is international recognise .Very high standard and also you will need to do more than 100 hours practise in college with clients.
I am also VTCT level 3 qualified in holistic therapy and this one is not as strict as ITEC. Think you should go for ITEC or NVQ. |

Hello,
I did NVQ level 2 12 years ago and didnt want to continue to work in this area after i qualified. I have had a re-think of what i want out of my life and i am now training at the Yorkshire College of Beauty in Yeadon towards ITEC Beauty Specialist and i am enjoying this course alot more than th NVQ. It may be just because i am now more interested now but its a lot harder but i have learnt alot more than on the NVQ. The difference between the two is: - NVQ - is on going course work and home projects ITEC - is a practical and written exam at the end I wouldnt be put off my the exam as i have just passed ITEC Holistic Masage level 3 and i passed with a credit - which i am thrilled about. Deffinately ITEC for me. Hope this helps. Sam |
