What do you think the future for sunbeds is?? - 15-03-08, 08:05 PM

In light of the recent thread on Spray Tan Cocktails, it got me to thinking:

What is the futrue for sunbeds?

Do you think they will up the regulations making sunbeds almost pointless?

Do you think demand for sunbeds will decrease as people people become more aware of skin damage due to uv rays?

Do you own a sunbed professionally and are you worried, or are you already planning ahead?

Or do you think none of the above and have totally different opinions!!! PLease let me know what you all think, am interested in the subject and would appriciate geeks opinions on this.

Thanks in advance geeks

I don't really have an opinion on the other questions, but people are aware of the risks that smoking do but some still smoke so I doubt that some people will listen to the risks that uv overexposure can do.

Up until ten years ago, I used sun beds twice a week from February for twelve weeks, I did this so that when the warm weather hit Belgium, I had a tan when I got my legs out. I read all the stuff on sun beds and cancer and decided that I was ok because of my limited low usage.
I stopped using them when I moved back to England, but only because I lacked the time.
I still don't think there is a problem with low level usage.
However I love the spray tans, and seeing as I want to break into this market, I'm very glad that a lot of other people feel the same way.
Sun beds can be very drying, where as spray tans leave your skin feeling very smooth and they do give us girls the excuse that we must pamper our skin daily. And its another excuse to have a party
But for some people the sun bed will always be their favorite.
So I think both systems are here to stay, with the spray tan gaining a larger slice of the market over the long term especially now that we no longer run the risk of looking tango'd

lol my legs have been a lovely shade of blueish white for nearly ten years.
If anyone wants the proof of sun damage all they need to do is look at a taxi drivers right arm in the summer. The skin looks a good 20 years older then the left arm. So right from when I started driving for a living I started carrying sun block 50 in the glove box. Just makes me mad that its the kids one the adult sun blocks are never as strong.
What makes me madder are that so many people out there still think that, a sun block will stop them getting a tan, and that they need to burn a bit to get a good tan

I think what will cause the biggest problem is that insurance companies will become reluctant to insure for use of sunbeds and those that do, will charge huge premiums. I think that sunbeds will fade out over time

the salon I worked in up until recently had a sun dome (stand up jobby) and it was very, very, popular.

The place where I did my work experience had a trad lie-down one, and that was popular too! I didnt think it would be as why lay there for half an hour when you can stand up for 6 mins? but there we go! xx

I know that they are still incredibly popular, but I would never install one just because I personally would never use a sunbed, so I wouldn't sell the service to any of my customers.

If I wouldn't do it to myself then I won't sell it to anyone else.

Just my opinion obviously. I'm like Tonilee, a little extreme where the sun is concerned.

business is slow at the moment in the sunbed business, but like other things, once people forget the press stories they will start to use them again. The younger generation seem to prefer spray tanning as it is instant.

I personally won't ever use a sunbed again unless I am going somewhere very hot on holiday, but that isn't likely to happen lol! This reason being to prepare my skin for tanning x

I have never used a sunbed just because i never wanted to .........i think everyone knows the damage they might cause but sassy is right.....we know smoking is bad but still do it (gulity as charged)..

IMO.if someone close to you or a friend got skin cancer due to them using sun beds .....THEN you might stop using them........the youngest person i know dieing is 23 year old woman .....and a 36 year old man.......and they had children...x
