too old for beauty school?? -
28-04-08, 01:44 PM
I am 28 and am thinking about training to become a beauty therapist. I currently work for a charity but am looking to get into something which is more people centered rather than office based.
I've had a look at some courses and beauty school websites and there's so much choice out there. Do you guy's think that the NVQ qualification does the job or would it be worth investing in the CIDESCO award? Also do you think that at 28 I'm a little bit too old to start a career in beauty therapy? seriously considering the career change but just need some advice or any inspiring stories! |

28 old? Don't make me laugh, 28 is not old, you are in your prime,
it is an idea age to get into the beauty industry, if i were interviewing and a 16 yr old came, a 18 yr old came and a 28 yr old came for the job and you were all equal other than age, i would employ the 28 yr old, you would have more life experience and hopefully more sense on your shoulders than the other two, so if anything your age would help you rather than hinder you hth, NVQ is the recognised qualification that employers look for, sorry but i don't much about the other qualification so can not advise on that one but some one on here will know about it, when you decide which course you want to take it would be a good idea to get in touch with the guild of beauty insurance company and double check that it is a recognised qualification that you would get at the end of your course hth by the way i was almost 35 when i first got into the industry and my age has never held me back ![]() |

Well you're a damn sight younger than me hun! If it's something you really want to do, then go for it.
There are a lot of people on this site who discovered a whole new career later in life. Good luck. xx |

I am nearly 36 and last september I totally had a change of direction and went back to college to start my nvq ' s in hairdressing.....i am mid age in my class the range is from 19 to late 40's for my class...and i love it....
Also there are quite alot of mature students at my college doing their beauty training too....never too old.....and its nice being at college and being mature watching the younger students how they act with lads etc its quite funny to think we where like that.......i really enjoy it |
