Airbrushing to cover up scars on the skin? - 14-08-08, 11:40 AM

Has anyone ever heard of this? I had a 14 year old ask me if I can do this but doeasn't want an obvious tan, I'm sure tanning won't cover them up but I said I'd ask.

Thanks guys. xx

You can always give it a go, with a low % DHA. I had a client once ask for a tan for the same reason, it did help to even out the skin tone. It made him feel happier and more confident anyhow, so that's the main thing.

Thanks Zozo

Would you just spray as usual or would you go over the scars twice? I only ask because I have 2 scars, one running lengthways down the middle of my back which tans with normal 10% spray but the one on my hip doesn't tan at all.
Thanks again. xx

It's hard to know without seeing the scarring - the guy I sprayed was covered in acne scarring all over his back, bottom, and the tops of his thighs - so I just sprayed him all over as normal.

If the client's scars are isolated I would probably spray her as normal and but ask her if she could come back the next day to let me see the result. It's all a learning curve isn't it!?

difficult one - 14-08-08, 12:35 PM

this is a difficult one
If the customer doesnt want an obvious than then the coverage to the scared area is going to be minimal.
the reality here is that you can only hide something by covering it...you cant make it invisible so to camouflage it the customer will defiantly need a full body tan otherwise if you only treat the scared area he/she is going to have a dark patch???
You are probably best to sit the customer down and have a good talk....explain to cover means the whole body and see how much it would mean to the customer to hide the scarring I.E is it worse to have the scar showing or to wear a full tan and hide it.
If a full tan is the answer I would recommend that a low % light base colour tan is applied to the full body with the next % up with a slightly darker colour base be applied to the scared area(assuming the scar is fully healed of course)
Even though there will be a slight difference in colour tone from the full body area and the additionally tanned scared area this should be les noticeable than having no tanned skin tone.
The other option is to use a foundation make up that is Matt in finish to the scared area... a Matt finish absorbs the light particles and reduces reflection back to the eye and therefore will also aid "diffusing" the appearance of the scar itself...unfortunatley make up isn't my bag and maybe some Geeks that do know could offer advice here.
Good luck anyway

Hi Collin

Thanks for that hun

She emailed me, so what I've done is emailed her back saying it might or might not work. We can only give it a try. What I suggested was the EOS and come back in the next day to see how it's turned out, then if necessary, top up over the scars with AG. I haven't seen her so don't know what the scars are like and I'm no make up geek either, so a consultation first is the way to go I think.

xx

Consultation is the only way forward in these situations..be upfront with your customer..they will appreciate it and see you as someone taking them seriously and going the extra mile to help them with their specific problem

I would perhaps not combine EOS and AG as the base colours and DHA content two wide apart and I am concerned that where you spray with AG that this will show up as to dark a patch.
1) If she is looking for a mild tan....then apply a 5% (darker base colour) to the scared area ..leave to dry and then spray the whole body with EOS..the 5% + the EOS concentrate to the scared area will blend in better and not appear so predominant a dark patch
2) If she is wanting to disguise the scar more she will need to take a darker overall tan...so spray the scared area with a 10% and then the full body with AG.
I am a little concerned however that if she wants a light tan that this cocktail may be to dark for her.

I guess the answer lies with her own personnel views and what skin type she is...if fair skin then try and avoid option 2)
Again the "less is more" approach in these situations is far better as easier to apply more solution if she wants to go darker

Good luck having a chat with her and do let us know how you get on

I have quite a few scars, the spray tan doesn't cover the up, but it does make the ones that have gone silvery LOADS less noticeable! The ones that are still a bit pinky colour go slightly darker.

Thanks Gemma, I'm going to see her in the next couple of days so I'll know more then. She said they're mainly on her arms and legs because she's so clumsy.

We can only try if not I might buy some bio oil to retail to her?!

Defo suggest the bio oil to her. If she really wants to hide them I'd recommend she get herself some Dermablend camoflage make up and setting powder. I have a scar on my forehead and I've used this stuff to cover it with great results. I also used it to cover a tattoo I'm having lasered on my arm.
