Sad Colour disaster! How to fix? - 03-10-08, 12:10 PM

hiya i'm new here.
this is whats happened: i have been highlighting my mousey-brown hair for about one year. i could not afford to get my roots done so used a home dye to go light brown. it reacted badly and went very dark brown with grey-green ends, not good!!
i went to a salon who said it needed red in it to get rid of the green. they did and all over tint and t-section highlights. my hair is now a red-ish brown with a few highlights that, since i washed it, have a grey tinge. I HATE IT! and want to get my hair re-done asap. my questions are:

- how do i fix this? im thinking colour strip/bleach bath (same thing i believe), and how soon can i do it?

- if i get it bleached can they put tint over to get me blonde/brown without it going funny or am i going to have to be barbie for a bit?

- what on earth will bleach do to my hair! i dont want it to fall out!
