hi guys
I am in the process of designing a new range of uniforms for us beauty therapists and wanted to get your very valued opinions on what your perfect uniform would look and feel like? ideas on colour, design, material etc would be fabulous. my reasons for taking on this challenge are because i feel that we have had our identity taken away from us, i got fed up of wearing the same uniforms as cleaners, veternary nurses, dental nurses, pet groomers (my personal favourite!lol) and chefs and feel it is definatley time for a change. Anyway who decided that a beauty therapist should look like they are about to participate in a karate class.!! ![]() i have found the uniforms that are around at the moment to be boring, poorly made and the material is just hideous. look forward to hearing your views. |

I HATE polyester uniforms
Cheap and nasty and you can never get a pair of trousers to match the colour if your wearing black, the shade is always offish... Sorry feel strongly about polyester uniforms no offence to anyone who wears them!! |

hi ya, im with you guys hate the polyester too! it makes you sweat in the summer, its cheap, and nasty.
id like a uniform that had some stretch to it for comfort. i find im big busted girl a size 20 but only a 14/16 waist so my uniform makes me look fat and frumpy. colours: some one always wants a colour that isnt available, so up date your colours with trends or request i suppose. well done for taking this challange on if i had the time and money id love to have done it, for your reasons exactly good luck with everything xx |

I find I need more freedom over the hips than the uniform gives me and I can never move my arms enough but the next size up would be huge, I like cotton also as I'm not slim a bit more of a flattering front would be nice so many girls keep getting asked when they are due- not nice

Hi there
Well done you for taking up the challenge! Personally I would like something with a little stretch in it. I am a size 12 usually but have scoliosis so I'm a little bent out of shape (not quite the Hunchback of Notre Dame yet though I would also like yoga style trousers like these Beauty Street | Yoga Trousers White. I also love the chinese style wrap ones that are around at the moment like these Beauty Street | Asia Kimono Beige. I would like to see more browns, beiges and creams, duck egg blue, as I will be mainly doing acrylic nails and I find that black is awful for showing dust The other bugbear for me is that everything is soooooo epensive! I realise that the manufacturers have to make money (as we all do) but even if they took £10 - £15 off each item it would make a big difference. I don't know about anyone else, but I like to wear a fresh set every day so that becomes very expensive! I hope (I'm sure) you can come up with something great xx |

Hi Hun,
This sounds like a good project.........back to my uni days I trained as a fashion designer...specialised in Weddings and evening wear. Would be happy to help you with this in any way I can. I feel some uniforms have the armholes too high........don't like the neckline too high, feel like I am choking.......do like the box pleat in the back for ease of movement. More breathable fabrics are needed Plus lots of nice colours...........also a range of dare I say cardigans to go over uniforms, that fully co ordinate, some days are just too cold until you get started. Best of luck, pm me if you need any other ideas........I can cut the patterns too. Lotsa luv x ![]() |

i find the same problems with the sizes. the ones who do our college uniforms are horrendous!! (G Gear) ive got very wide hips and a small waist, but then fairly big boobs, so my uniform is tight on my hips and boobs but then soo baggy around my waist, the next size up buried me so i look like a box!!

There are some very good companies providing some stylish fits in a range of colours and also the traditional chinese style as mentioned above. Fabric does seem to be important and a lot of salon uniform companies are now designing new styles using luxury and 2way stretch fabrics. Take a look at Inline London, Salonwear Direct and Labeeby to name a few

I do hair not beauty but I hate my college uniform, I paid quite a bit for it but its cheap, nasty feeling, uncomfortable but more important its hot. The salon at college has no windows as its in the middle of the building and when all the dryers etc are on is far too hot. I want to find something cool to wear that is comfortable and a bit flattering.

It seems you would benefit from a light fabric that will feel cool. A good fabric will give you this. You will pay more for the quality but it will be worth. I would also recommend a uniform that is sleevless. there are ones that wrap around the body with one button without sleeves.
