Hey im just wondering what you all think is a decent amount of time to give being self employed before you know if its going to work and you are going to earn enough dosh??

Im in a weird situation at the mo as ive been renting a space in a salon for about 7 weeks now and ive found out im pregnant bad timing or wot!! I dont really know wot 2 do wot did anyone else do if they have been in this situation did u only take a small amount of time off with the baby and still pay your rent when u were off??

Sorry thats kinda 2 questions in 1 but also i know 7 weeks isnt long enough to judge but im not earning alot and definatley wont be to support a baby aswell lol! so just wondering what sort of time scale you would give it!!

most business things say 12 - 18 months!! I'm now reaching the 18 month point and doing ok but not brilliant - lucky I have another part time job to pay household bills!! So keep in there, it'll come!

Do you have a kind Mum or other to look after the babe for free when you are back at work?

My suggestion would be; If your landlord/lady aren't very understanding to you needing to take time off and not pay the rent, you have enough time to get yourself organised. If you have a good client base, start asking if they would mind you becoming mobile after the babe is born. I wouldn't recommend before as the lifting is not good, also be careful after as a baby knackers your back for the 1st year. But at least you won't have rent to pay and you can fit in the hours to suit you and Babe, this will also pay off when little one is at School as you will be able to fit clients around drop off.
Another alternative is to work for a make-up counter. You will get regular salery, bonuses, freebies, less lifting and physical work. I'm not sure what the score is regarding maternity pay if you start once your pregnant, but they tend to be quite understanding. I don't think they can discriminate against you because your pregnant.

Be careful with what you use in treatments and look after youself, it's the best thing in the world and the scariest. You'll be fine, just make sure you get your friends and family to rally around you.
