Hiya Bud,
I know this might sound a bit obvious but have you tried Clarins? my skin reacts very badly against anything BUT Clarins, as it is all nature based there are no nasties in there to drive your skin crazy and I find it really soothes the skin. I haven't tried the new Nimue range from Designer Nails but I believe it works in a very similar way, perhaps it's worth giving them a call and talking to them about it? J xx |

i had terrible skin for a long time even when i hit thirty i wondered when my "puberty acne " would end.
i tried liz earle cleanse and polish it is amazing no tightness or dryness and although i get the odd break out, not nearly as much now it doesnt sting and you just rub it on your face and wipe off with a damp warm muslim cloth her products are wonderful she sells sample kits www.lizearle.com or www.lizearle.co.uk |

What a lot of people forget to do too is to exfoliate and moisturise. It is a must with acne as the oil grabs hold of the dead skin that needs to shed so exfoliateion helps to rid that and a good quality oil free moisturiser is needed.
Where you have described your spots though sometimes indicates that you have problems with your teeth, is that so? The reason I ask this is I went on to do a course on acne because my son suffers with it, he still does and he`s 27 so you`re not alone. During this course I did learn that there are 2 main places for acne, across the cheekbones (usually women who wear make-up) and along the jawline, and if you have problems with your teeth apparently then all the treatments you try will not eliminate the problem until the teeth problem is sorted. I have no idea if this is actually true except that my son has had ongoing trouble with his teeth and it seems true for him. One day we hope he`ll have lovely skin again and I hope you find out how to clear yours |

Dermalogica -
15-10-04, 10:37 AM
I have regular facials - once a month - with Dermalogica products and they carry out a process called Face Mapping. A bit like reflexology, every part of your face relates to an area on your body and therefore outbreaks, dryness, oilyness etc could be related to an interior problem.
Just something to think about... as the earlier response mentioned, it could be something as easy as your teeth. I too was on Dianette, as my back was bad with acne.. but since having my son two years ago I've had no problems ! Hope that helps |

Hi Laura, I too had the same problem for many years. I also was put on dianette and cileste neither of which helped a great deal and turned me into the moodiest cow in britain!!
I have been using clinique 3 step system for about 5 years now and apart from the odd monthly hormone induced spot I haven't suffered from an outbreak in years. It did take a bit of time for them to clear when I first started using it but I basically have completely clear skin now, I know it's quite expensive but well worth the money in my opinion. What I tend to do aswell is get people to buy it for me for xmas and birthday so I've got a little stock of it. You should go and have a chat with the girls on the counter because the 3 step comes in 3 different strengths depending on your skin type, I use level 2.... The other thing I heard the other day from a friend of mine who's son suffered very badly is to drink actemal or one of those drinks everyday. She heard it through another friend of hers and apparently that works quite well, maybe something to do with the 'friendly bacteria' in it. As for cover ups Stila do a very good 1, again quite expensive but it goes on very well. I hope you get something sorted, I know how depressed I used to get and your right you do feel like a teenager........... x |

Hello,
Ive just read your thread & got on the phone to my friend, shes 27yr & suffered with red spots (sometimes they had heads & quite often not) she calls them lumps that could be quite sore on her various parts of her face, back & chest. She tried everything from a chinesse herbalist to twice monthly facials, her relief came when she went to see a new doctor at her surgery & he prescribed her Oxytetracycline 250mg 2 tablets twice a day - she took them for about a month & her skin cleared up everywhere. But, it did start to become a little dry so she stopped taking the tablets & the spots returned ! She now takes 2 tablets a day & is spot free. She says she would recommend them to any one who has been unfortunate enough to be blessed with dodgy hormones ! I hope you find a remedy soon. Sophie |

thanks everyone for your replies... it's nice to know i'm not the only grown-up with an adolescent problem - it always seems that wherever you look there's people with beautiful clear skin, and then these people moan when they have one teeny spot!!!
i think i'll try clarins products, i def need to get a routine going - i'm crap at remembering to even take my make-up off. It might be expensive to buy products all the time - but at least it's cheaper than having a baby! (don't think my boyf will be willing to give that remedy a go, as sympathetic as he is!!!) tried the oxytetracycline when i was much younger, but cos it's an antibiotic i couldn't really take it with my pill now!?! going to pop into town later to find some good make-up too... thanks again x |

Hi - adult acne is horribly distressing. My sister in law has suffered from acne since she was 12 years old - she's 37 now and has gone through the Dianette and oxytetracycline route and various things in between that i can't remember the names of now. She was becoming very depressed and had gone beyond the stage of covering up as the make up, even v. expensive non comedogenic types was just making it worse. She had previously been to see dermatologists and her GP told her about 5 years ago when he put her on the oxytetracycline that they had reached the end of the road for treatments and she would just have to live with it of the drugs didn't help. She didn't accept this and hassled..and hassled.. and hassled until she was referred to a different specialist. She was offered Roaccutane and was given thorough counselling before she decided whether to accept and is now in her 5th week of treatment. So far she's having all the side effects and none of the benefits but it's a 6 month course so she is being patient.
i guess that what I am trying to say is DON'T JUST ACCEPT that you have had all the help you can get. Keep trying, it's your right to get specialist treatment for ANY condition that affects your outlook and quality of life. Don't let any so called professional make you think that acne is not a serious condition. If it affects the way you view yourself it is serious. Good luck. |
