Redface What do you think is best? - 26-10-09, 07:18 PM

Please help, which one do you guys prefer to work in/ prefer to go to?
  • A beauty salon
  • A Rented Room
  • A home salon
  • A Summer house/ Shed converted into a salon
  • A mobile therapist
I will really appreciate the replies as I really have no idea what step to take next

A salon. I would feel uncomfortable in someones house. I have too many nosy animals to have treatments done at home.

I personally prefer to go to a rented salon/rented room within a hairdressers etc.
However I do have my own home salon but I went mobile first and then took the clients to the home salon. However most of them wouldn't follow me as they sought me out specifically because I came to their house.

However I would beware of going mobile to start with because clients always seem to think that as you are mobile you should charge less, when actually the reverse is true as you have to use petrol to get there, spend time driving and setting up etc which you are not getting paid for!

I'm hoping to start renting a desk soon in a new salon and can't believe how much I've had to hike my prices up to cover my rent, but I think people will pay the big bucks in a nice salon. The ambience in most people's houses is awful-it can be a nightmare trying to do a spa pedi with screaming kids and pets running around the place!

Good luck with whatever you decide!

I prefer someone to come to me at home as I have a 1yr old who I would need to get a baby sitter for. Although I always time things for during his nap time. At the moment I have my hairdresser and nail tech come to me, but I get my beauty treatments done at a friends home salon - the kids all play together which helps x

With me I would go anywhere aslong as the quality of the treatment was realy good. I dont think that it matters as long as the people are friendly and open and provided an excellent service. I love working mobile but I know it wouldnt be everybodies cup of tea. But for my treatments I go for the best quality AND customer care, no one want to be greated by a miserable receptionist and a grumpy stylist/technitian. Hope that helps xxx

Definitely a salon.
Wouldn't want to go to someones house as i would feel like i was encroaching on their space.
Wouldn't want to do it at home either as there are always distractions-phone rings, doorbell goes, kids running round, neighbours kids screaming.
I would rather go to a salon as i would want the whole pampering experience.
That's just my opinion.

Provided you can afford the rent, having your own salon is definitely best.

As angelina211 says, it allows you to provide the whole experience.

i work in a salon part time as have kids. done this when left college few years ago to gain experience in a salon environment and pick up new skills. but i also work from home and mobile as my boss knows as long as i dont use her salon clients and dont work within a 3 mile radius. i kinda have best of both world s to be honest i have my set wage every week as my security especially having kids but also have my own wee clientelle which i love.

Sorry, have to disagree. Overheads are far greater when salon based as opposed to mobile. Pricing usually reflects this. If it were cheaper to have a salon - I am sure the majority of mobile therapists would be salon based.
