Question In need of advice about starting out pls - 31-10-09, 11:20 AM

Hi geeks

I could really use some advice as to what equipement is most used by you experienced mobile techs? Well basically by anybody experienced. I plan to go mobile and I'm slowly building up my equipment like gels, acrylic paints and nail art. There's just so much out there I'm confused on what's the most important. The make sure to have items.

I currently have one gel set (bond, builder and top shine) plus white french. What would you add to this?

I have only 4 gel colours so far but looking to expand and buy slowly. Colours I have are glitter silver, glitter red, pink neon and black. What colours are most used?

I have a wide colour range of acrylic paints. Any recommendations?

Also have a small collection of shells, glitters, beads, decals, mylar, and rhynstones (cheap kind need to get better quality) Any recommendations?

Tips I have are salon and one set of designer tips (needed for course). I will be buying french tips next week. And will be buying tips that are recommended for nail biters. What do you think? Any other pls?

Also I will have some manicure/pedicure equipement and creams but not sure what they are yet. Any recommendations?

I can buy on invoice, once I've paid off all my course but I don't want to run too high a tab. That's why I can use your advice on what are the most important items to make sure I have.

Sorry this is long. Thanks for all the advice in advance.

The make sure to have items.

Towels, bin, couch roll, hand sanitiser, daylight lamp, table protector, tips, forms, cuticle remover, water spray, metal tools, dehydrator. On top of that are the products you need to do your job - l+p/gel, abrasives, etc.

I currently have one gel set (bond, builder and top shine) plus white french. What would you add to this? I would make sure I had all the products in that gel line so you can do both french and natural enhancements......

I have only 4 gel colours so far but looking to expand and buy slowly. Colours I have are glitter silver, glitter red, pink neon and black. What colours are most used? I would get dark red, purple, mid-pink, maybe navy blue, I don't really do coloured gel so I'm going on which polish colours I get asked for most often.

I have a wide colour range of acrylic paints. Any recommendations? I don't do nail art, so no sorry.

Also have a small collection of shells, glitters, beads, decals, mylar, and rhynstones (cheap kind need to get better quality) Any recommendations? I hardly ever get asked for anything like this so tbh I would spend money on the more essential parts of your kit first......

Tips I have are salon and one set of designer tips (needed for course). I will be buying french tips next week. And will be buying tips that are recommended for nail biters. What do you think? Any other pls? I use mainly natural coloured well-less tips from Pro Impressions.

Also I will have some manicure/pedicure equipement and creams but not sure what they are yet. Any recommendations? I use CND's Almond Manciure line, gives a beautiful manicure experience and smells gorgeous.

I would advise you to build your kit slowly, get the essential items and get other bit almost on demand. I would concentrate on using top quality products and build your reputation on good quality work. Mobile is hard work but so worth it!

Thanks Vetty - 03-11-09, 09:44 PM

Vetty

Thank you so much. You mentioned some stuff that didn't even occur to me when writing the thread. Like I know I need all my hygiene items but didn't think of a bin to carry. I'll probably take nappy bags and ask the client to place it in their bin when we're done. Is that ok to ask? Also do you take a lamp with you?

That's what I plan to do. That's why I asked for the "make sure to have stuff", which I think you covered greatly. In Malta most nail wearers have nail art so it is necessary to have some stuff available. Plus they expect to see a portofolio or nail chart.

Thanks again. I have made a list or all the items you mentioned and will work on getting them slowly.

Personally I prefer to have my bin because of the vapours and resulting odour that L+P creates. My bin is metal so contains the vapours and the smell, being mobile I would hate to leave my client with a plastic bag that they may well put in their plastic kitchen bin because the vapours will escape through the plastic and fill their house with odour and they will blame you. By using a metal bin and taking it with you the smell left in their house will be next to nothing.

Trust me, it seems a minor issue but you will spend you whole time defending yourself against clients who claim they got a headache from it! Mine is about inches tall, came from the bathroom department of a shop and cost me £4.99.

I always carry a lamp with me. The lighting in people's homes is for living in not working in. My daylight lamp is a lifesaver!

Good luck with it, mobile in Malta seems a lot nicer than in Swindon in November!!!

Thanks Yvette,

Thanks for the excellent advise. I will see about getting the lamp and the bin for my startout items. Mobile in Malta is nice unless it's pouring rain or blistering hot lol :lol

I'm originally from Canada and would welcome snow and central heating to any day of pouring rain.

Thanks

I use nappy bags to put my waste in and then take it home with me.
